No way in hell does Zelenskyy prefer to work with Trump over Biden, Harris, or almost anyone else running for U.S. president, except for maybe worm-brain.

You're quoting the pro-Russian former leader of Ukraine during a time when Russia was smuggling terrorists and weapons into the country in a takeover bid as evidence that Russia was "provoked" into starting the war eight years later? We’ve kinda had some other stuff going on I can’t even keep track of the news fast enough lol. But listen at the end of the day Zelenskyy doesn’t care if Mickey Mouse is president as long as he gets us and western support against Russia. He’d probably sell his soul for that. So working with trump is a non issue and honestly it’s easy. Just kiss his ass a ton - and I mean a ton, and he’ll probably get what he wants. Or at least I hope.

US sanctions have tanked Russian semi-chip imports from China and Hong Kong, new data shows (msn.com)

Transshipments of advanced components through mainland China fell 19% between January and May, while shipments through Hong Kong dropped 28%, the outlet said.

The Commerce Department provided the previously undisclosed data. An official told Reuters that the slowdown resulted from the aggressive enforcement of US sanctions.

Also cited was closer cooperation with any firms whose products were transshipped. This refers to a practice where illicit goods are first exported to an intermediate destination, which helps circumvent restrictions. It's been a known risk to US efforts since sanctions began.

"We are talking to any company whose items are showing up on the battlefield," the official told Reuters, but did not specify the firms' names.

Russia's Central Bank is expected to raise its key interest rate to curb the high inflation that has followed Vladimir Putin's invasion, but one expert said that even higher "shock therapy" rises are needed to cool the overheated wartime economy.

Russia has so far weathered relatively well the turbulence of sanctions imposed to isolate the country from the global financial system as punishment for Putin's aggression. However, there are concerns of economic problems on the horizon.

Expected 2024 growth of 2.9 percent has been boosted mostly by government spending on the military, but it comes amid a labor shortage that has spiked wages and fueled annual inflation, which, at 8.6 percent, is over twice the 4 percent Central Bank has targeted. Newsweek has contacted the Russian Central Bank for comment.


To tighten monetary policy and curb inflation, the key Central Bank interest rate at which other banks can borrow is expected to rise from 16 percent to 18 percent when the institution meets on July 26, according to Russian business outlets RBC and Vedemosti.

However, Alexei Antonov, head of investment consulting at Alor Broker, has said that even this increase will not be enough to cool the overheated economy. He did not rule the bank "resorting to the 'shock therapy'... of a 20 to 24 percent interest rate for a short time," reported Profinance.ru, a financial news outlet.

 

I have not been saying this for 2 years now. That Zelenskyy even held the call with Trump, this far out from the election (ie Trump has zero power to make any decisions right now) is very telling. Zelenskyy has always wanted peace. He ran for president on a peace with Russia platform. I would love to go into more detail, but you don’t want detail.

The Central Bank of Russia is suspending the publication of statistics on the over-the-counter currency market. This follows from a message on the regulator's website. The Central Bank explains that the decision was made to limit the impact of sanctions.


This means that
1/13 the ruble has absolutely no clear exchange rate. Now the Central Bank sets this rate at its own discretion. But the main expectation is July 26, when the Central Bank will announce an increase in the key rate. Experts predict growth from 16% to 18% but there may be surprises

 

Zelenski and everybody I listen to from the Ukranian perspective advises the same thing. Any negotiated deal with Putin will result in Russian consolidation, a pause to regroup, and then the tanks will roll. I support his view.

IDK. Seems like kissing his ass actually works. He's just that small minded and base. He even had words of half-hearted approval for the aid package once it finally went through. Only upside of Trump is that he's all about Trump and will back anything that makes him more popular in the general public's eyes. Just look at his gutting of abortion language in the RNC platform. The thinking (among those in denial) is that this is "just for the election", but who says it is. If 70% of Americans back the position of making abortion an exclusively state (not national) issue, do you think he'll turn back? Hell the F no he isn't, especially with no reelection on the horizon.

In a way, that's kind of awesome. The idiots will vote for him three times only to see him kill their favorite pet issue.

I think it's the same with Ukraine. Once he realized his anti-Ukraine rhetoric only worked with the dumbest of MAGA morons, he clamed up about it and became clearly more non-committal.

 

Not sure its even a good idea for Ukraine to get Crimea back. Strategically, I get it. But when you consider 1.5M Russians and a possible insurrection, that's the last thing Ukraine needs. That said, the solution here is pretty obvious. South Korea. While they're regrouping, you do the same, fortify, lay mines and make any future attempt a death wish.
