Live updates: Harris, Democrats net $100 million in online donations after Biden exits race Not a record any more $100 million> $53 Million
Gatorjo, you sound like you get your talking points directly from the White House. So for the the past five years they told you Joe was quicker, smarter, faster, sharper then all of his younger aides. Joe gets more done in one hour then all you people get done in a full day. Then we find out it was a good thing because Joe only worked from 10am to 4pm! Then the other day the power brokers go to Joe and tell Joe, you’re done Joe it’s over. You’re in mental decline, you have no chance to win. It’s been two days now and I’m waiting to hear it from Joes mouth.
Brain-worms Bobby isn't a Democrat. And he was allowed to compete. He left the party because he had no support. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. drops his Democratic primary bid, will run as an independent P.S. The competition is currently open. Nobody is challenging Kamala Harris because she's already got it locked. Now, the Republicans need to replace their old, senile man so we have two real options. Can't have somebody in the White House who is that old and in clear cognitive decline.
If you want to know why nobody is challenging her, here is one of the many reasons: The party's base and donors are behind her.
Well that’s exactly what they’re doing. They are a very unserious contingent so when they do stuff like mock Joe Biden’s competency for years then cry about how unfair it is when he steps down, it’s expected. Unserious people behave in an unserious manner.
Well if that's the narrative you've contrived, I guess you're free to do so. I have no idea why you're telling your fiction to ME though. So I guess you'll be voting for the lying, convicted felon, serial adulterer, adjudicated and self-admitted sexual assaulter, who stole classified documents and refused to return them, accepted help in an election from Russia, and enacted a criminal conspiracy to overturn an election. Sounds like something you should be proud of. Maybe you can make up a story or something about how those things aren't true.....
Over 500k first time, 2024 donors. That's telling. These are persons that were either never going to vote for Trump, but may have stayed home instead of voting for Biden. Or, could represent the unusually large number of undecideds, as most swing states still had a 10% undecided block. Either way, good news for Harris and the Ds.
Gator Lawyer, I think we’re both above name calling so I’m not going to respond to that. If you’ve read my posts previously you would remember that I’ve said that I’m not a Trump fan on a personal basis. I do agree with his policies and believe the country was headed in the right direction before we ran into Covid. I don’t believe in open borders and while I don’t like the New green deal, I’d rather see us focus on hydrogen and nuclear solutions. What is it that you’ve seen from Kamala Harris that makes you think she would be a great, even a good president? We have an opportunity to nominate the best the Democrats have and you truly think it’s Kamala?
She's smart, bold, and has policy ideas that accord far more with mine than Trump's do. While I disagree with some of her stances on criminal law from her time as California AG (which were far too conservative for my taste), she did an excellent job of going after large corporations for malfeasance and taking risks that paid off that other AGs weren't taking. In the Senate, she was in the minority the entire time, so there wasn't much to accomplish in terms of legislation, but she was outstanding with her questioning at hearings. As VP, she has cast important tie-breaking votes, done what's asked of her, and articulated a vision of this country and its future that's quite different from Trump's. But ultimately, whether she's a great or good or average President isn't really the question. I'm weighing two candidates against each other. Trump was one of the worst Presidents in this country's history. And I expect a second run to only be worse based on Project 2025 and the people around him now. I am confident Harris will be better.
I appreciate that thoughtful post on Mrs. Harris. I don’t know much more about her other than some of the short clips I see of her laughing incessantly. That’s probably not fair. But I guess I’d like for you to explain to me what exactly was it that was so bad about Trumps first term that you disagreed with. Just off the top of my head, the guy needs to stay off social media as a starter. But I think we had low inflation, lower gas prices, lower grocery prices, low unemployment for all races. Prison reform. The Abraham Accords. Increased funding for HBCU’s. Better security at the boarder with stay in Mexico, and I could go on and on. But I’m being serious because you have taken the time to respond to my posts so I’m asking you are you more opposed to his policies and what are those or do you just think the guy is a pompous ass? And on that we could both agree!
Trump's economic numbers were identical to Obama's second term numbers, until COVID hit. Unemployment dropped at the same rate, and the economy grew at the same rate. This was the result of a mature economy. Remember Trump trying to pump the economy to get 5% growth rates? He failed, as a mature economy can't be pumped that way, and all Trump accomplished was ballooning the deficit. And what did we get for the troubles? A .1% increase in average quarterly growth as compared to Obama! The Trump border wasn't any more secure either. And Mexico didn't pay a peso for a wall that was crumbling, cut, or tunneled under the moment it was erected. Trump was so angry that the border wasn't secure, he cut funding to Northern Triangle C. American countries in 2018. The result? More undocumented entries in 2019 since the 1990s! The only thing that slowed this down was the pandemic. Stay in Mexico was a pandemic only provision, and could only continue as long as the pandemic did. Trump also raised tariffs, and as a result, China retaliated and stopped buying soy beans from the US. The result is the US soy bean farm market crashed, and we spent billions in subsidizing them. They still haven't recovered, and now Trump wants to add a 10% tariff to all imports? What will that do to all the markets? Trump was lucky to inherit a mature economy. But today, things are much different. And unless Trump can wiggle his nose, say "yapple dapple," and magically transform everything and everyone back to 2017, his economic policies will be a major disaster. So will his other policies.
Not lawyer, but I will answer from my perspective as well: The issue is that he really doesn't have policies. For example, how many policies has he taken on abortion in the last 8 years? At least 4-5. How many times did he state that his healthcare plan was coming in 2 weeks? When is it coming? 2 weeks? How many times did he have "infrastructure week?" How many infrastructure bills did he pass? From a consistent policy standpoint, the only thing that he consistently supported was getting the government more involved in the labor and capital markets. He wants tariffs, which is an increase on taxes for consumption of products produced in other countries. He wants to cut immigration (of all types). We need workers. Less so than prior to the last few years. But we still need them or else we get more inflation, like what happened after Covid cut off immigration. So, outside of a couple of issues, which I don't agree with him at all on, he doesn't really have policies. So about all that is left is the pompousness (as you put it) and the authoritarian instincts that he has.
1. Appointing awful people to the federal judiciary 2. Family separation and border policy generally 3. Bungling COVID with his dismantling of early detection systems in China and bipolar behavior 4. Tax cuts that exploded the deficit in a good economy 5. Chaotic, incompetent behavior in a general sense 6. Trying to overturn an election he lost 7. Wanting to build a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border 8. Constant lying 9. Trying to reclassify federal employees so he could fire civil servants who earned their job on merit and replace them with his political allies, despite statutes forbidding this 10. Failing to follow through on his good promises (like infrastructure) 11. Numerous awful statements 12. Cozying up to foreign dictators and trashing our democratic and NATO allies 13. Political corruption (see, e.g., Ukraine quid pro quo) 14. Trying to overturn an election he lost 15. Trying to overturn an election he lost! And I could go on. That's not even getting to all the incompetent people he appointed to lead federal agencies, his work to undermine legal immigration, his economic protectionism, and his administration's hostility towards racial, religious, and other minority groups (like members of the LGBTQ+ community). That was his first term. He actually had some competent and sane people around him for parts of that term. It's going to be so much worse in a second term when he surrounds himself with the worst sycophants in his orbit. Project 2025 is repugnant, and the crowd he's now cuddling up to want to destroy what makes our higher education system the best in the world (alongside many other vital parts of our republic). So yeah, no thank you.
You're on here shilling for a guy who enacted a criminal conspiracy to overturn an election. Between the fake elector slates, coercion of state officials and his VP, constant public lying, and inciting an attack on the Capitol.......you can either admit that that is true and you accept it. Or admit that you choose to live in an alternate reality based on total lies. There's little more vile, and almost nothing more un-American than an elected official ignoring his oath of office to try and circumvent the will of millions of voters. If you're perfectly OK with that, just say so. Definitely don't try to lie about it though, at least not HERE. And all that said......how should the credibility and opinion be regarded of someone who is OK with an elected official trying to steal an election?
Please add: 1. Yes, inflation rise dramatically under Biden. But Our inflation was dramatically lower than most of the World.its convenient to forget that the inflation skyrocketed due to Covid and supply chain nightmares. 2. Manufacturing. Let’s talk about Trump’s signature piece of legislation— his new NAFTA, specifically designed by him to return manufacturing to the US. But instead of returning it to the US, his legislation single-handedly drive unprecedented manufacturing to Mexico.
Others have added their policy arguments, but I want to add a comment about “the guy needs to stay off social media.” He won’t stay off it. He’s compulsive. And no matter how many people try to excuse it, the words and actions of the President matter. It was so frequently annoying, at times grossly embarrassing, and often inappropriate, not to mention reckless to the leadership of our Country.
Meanwhile, a YUGE thank you to @GatorLegend for bringing actual politics to discuss and disagree and debate. With Trump, the entire narrative turns to whether he is morally qualified to be in the topic, or whether he has been unjustly persecuted. It’s nice to talk substance, for a change.
Gonna strongly disagree with you here. I'll give him YUGE props for the effectiveness of his troll routine, though; "Hey, I was in a total news cocoon for the last 8 years. I have no idea about how Trump tried to coerce the President of an allied nation, nor do I have any idea that his border policies lacked legislative plans and were no different than any other POTUS. I certainly have NO IDEA about how his response to covid was absolutely nothing but a series of absolute and outright lies that cost 100s of thousands of lives! But would you please take your valuable time to simply repeat the actual news of the past 8 years for me, so that I may ignore it and attempt to gaslight you!" No thanks. Hard for me to believe he's getting any responses (educating him on what has ACTUALLY OCCURRED over the past 8 years.)
