I was referencing the games here: Article: Gators Land Point Guard Urban Klavzar First, I'll point out that I think Auburn this year also had final four potential, still do, and lost in the first round. Having the talent to go to the final four doesn't guarantee any wins in the NCAA tournament. You can get still get unfavorable draws and have teams that just matchup with you really well. South Carolina, for example, being our nemesis during the 2006 title run, winning 2/3 and nearly costing us the SEC tourney. On a pure talent level, nowhere near us, but just had the right personnel to match up with us really well for some reason. If they had made the NCAA tourney that year they would have been a real danger if we ended up matched up with them again. Next I'll say that I think if the gators at the end of the year were allowed to play their SEC schedule over again (sans Handlogten injury), they would place somewhere in the top 4 of the SEC. I mean that was a brutal start and I think they were somewhat shellshocked by the competition jump that came once they got into SEC play. Probably behind Alabama, Auburn, and Tennessee. Watching the team grow up was one of the real treats of last season. Finally I'll say that while I realize we lost a lot of production, my true read and feeling on the situation is that we'll be a better overall team from our additions with slightly less production offensively, but legions better defensively and better able to handle different types of lineups that we encounter. I mean I think we were better than TXAM from a pure talent standpoint, but there's a reason they beat us once and bullied us in the second game (and thank goodness Aberdeen went off that game). If you were able to just put massive players on the court and hammer it down the lane, we just didnt have the size to stop it. I don't think that's gonna be a problem this year. Or let me put it another way. There's a stat, I believed called differential, which is basically the difference between the scores the player makes vs the scores given up that can be attributed to that player. While I think our production will dip, I think the average "differential" per player will be much better and we will be able to handle a lot more different types of teams and situations and be much better prepared to make deep runs in tournaments and win consistently. Ill also add that all I wanted from our final addition was a point guard who could step in and handle distribution and running the offense if our "PG by committee" between Martin, Aberdeen and Clayton didnt work. Because that was the one deficit I saw potentially putting a glass ceiling on this team where they otherwise had the talent to go further, but were being held back by lack of a puzzle piece. I was thinking either project PG from HS but good fundamentals ala Scottie Wilbelkin or a mid-major senior willing to take a chance on playing time to play for a high-major team. The fact that our final piece can be anything more than that is just house money IMO and more than I ever could have asked for realistically. Im still shocked we landed him. Anything can happen. We can still lose in the first round again. But the entire experience of the college basketball season and conference tourney time is made more fun when your team is "in the hunt", and therefore what happens around the country is a lot more relevant. And that's what Im looking forward to: the journey of next season with a team in the hunt, not necessarily the end. This year's conference tournament was the most fun Ive had with a gator basketball team in ages, since Chris Chiozza shocked Wisconsin at the buzzer.
One thing I'm pretty confident in. We are going to be very aggressive and very tough at every position.

Do you know what his coach asks of him? That context would be important to know. It seems like you're quoting his assist stat in an effort to make the argument that he is not a good distributor. Maybe he is simply their best scoring guard or wing, and that's what his present coach wants. We know that Golden will make sure that he dishes, but of course, we do not know now fully what Golden will ask him to do.
He’s playing off ball next to a pass first guard for Slovenia and he normally plays lead guard in a pick and roll heavy offense
I'm not getting into interpretation. Rather: this tournament is not showing me evidence of point guard. It isn't showing me evidence of not-point-guard. More like: incomplete grade.
Lithuania-Spain at 7AM tomorrow (loser's bracket, I believe.) Slovenia-Belarus at noon for a trip to the finals, Sunday at 2:30.
