The Office of the Dictator keeps trying to put student loan debt on the taxpayer population to try to win votes. The SCOTUS has already blocked something substantially similar to this, but since the Office of the Dictator doesn't believe in laws or the separation of powers, they keep trying. The blocker this time is a federal appeals court: Another Blow to Joe: Appeals Court Blocks Biden Student Loan Plan – RedState A federal appeals court blocked President Biden’s student loan repayment plan, which would have lowered payments for millions of people who borrowed money for education. Attorney General Andrew Bailey @AGAndrewBailey · Follow JUST IN: The Court granted our emergency motion to BLOCK Joe Biden’s entire illegal student loan plan, which would have saddled working Americans with half-a-trillion dollars in Ivy League debt. HUGE win for every American who still believes in paying their own way. 12:44 PM · Jul 18, 2024 The 8th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled Thursday, granting a motion for an administrative stay filed by Republican-led states. The order will prohibit the Biden administration from implementing parts of its Saving on a Valuable Education (SAVE) program that weren’t already blocked by lower courts, The Associated Press reported. At this late date and with the democratic socialist communist party in such disarray, it is probably too late to start a third attempt. To be sure the Office of the Dictator knows this will never happen, but student loan debt holders wanting a free handout at the expense of the full taxpayer base on debt they willingly accepted can always be bought.
And now the Secretary of Education has paused the loan repayments for everybody impacted by lawless Republicans in robes. Beautiful. Education Department freezes student loan payments for 8M borrowers
For the record, there is very little Ivy League debt. Most normal Americans who get in, go for free. The people who have to pay their own way, can afford to pay their own way.
I still have $120k from my Northwestern MBA. I keep it on the books because the interest rate is extremely low and my investments outearn the interest payments. But if Biden thinks you guys should pay it… I’ll take it. BIG 10 school, so not Ivy.
Depends on whether you’re looking at undergrad or grad school, and how recent it is. While most of the Ivies currently have pretty good financial aid for undergrad, that’s a somewhat recent development (they historically gave no “merit aid” and looked to FAFSA for need, and I’ll respectfully suggest that FAFSA’s assessment of ability to pay, at least as of when it was relevant to me, didn’t necessarily reflect actual ability to pay well over $100,000 for an Ivy education - most people presumably are not selling or mortgaging their house to send their child to college even if FAFSA assumed they could). As a result, Ivies were historically very reasonable for the very rich or the very poor, and cripplingly expensive for folks in the upper middle class. On grad or professional school, there is far less financial aid available for most of them.
Temporary relief at best. Do you really think the SCOTUS won't rule this unconstitutional a second time? The decision makers in the education department knows they are gone come January so may as well go out with a bang. Given the state of our governance in the White House and the disarray in the democratic socialist communist party, the Office of the Dictator may not know this is happening, unilateral action taken by non-elected bureaucrats who are on cruise control to break laws and violate the constitution. Trump = the threat to our beautiful republic? Absolute not. That threat belongs to the democratic socialist communist party.
Depends on the program. Doctoral students usually are fully funded with a stipend. It's different for law students. But even then, many of the people have a scholarship that defrays some of the costs. And they're generally not eligible for these programs because of the money they're making or they're in public service and already benefiting from LRAP and PSLF.
I don't much care what Republican SCOTUS does. They continue to invent "law" to allow them to overturn popular policies the people voted for. What they've been doing in admin law is nothing short of an attack on separation of powers. I have zero respect for those Republican politicians. You can keep projecting your fascist leanings on the rest of us because Biden committed the crime of using government to make people's lives less bad.
More BS from a supposed lawyer I have never seen. Illegal and unconstitutional is a threat to the US Republic. There is no excuse for this. The power of the purse belongs exclusively to the legislature, not the executive. It's not the SCOTUS behaving in disrespect of the constitution, it's the Biden Administration which is conducting itself as a dictatorship. If Biden could get this passed in congress, he be all legal in what he is wanting to do. That he is willing to do it with a stroke of a pen he knows is illegal and unconstitutional is so transparent that you cannot rationally reject what he is doing as anything more than a dictator's action and a threat to the US Republic. Forgiving student loan debt was never a Biden 2020 campaign promise. Here's where Biden's 2020 campaign promises currently stand - POLITICO Biden is willing to spit on US Laws and the US Constitution simply to try to persuade voters with student loan debt to vote for him. He did the same thing in the 2022 midterms and was ultimately overturned by the SCOTUS. There is a cost to everything Dictator Biden wants to do. He has already stated he is going to let the Trump tax cuts expire plus raise new taxes. How is that fair to the taxpayer base at large? Shifting the debt to the many on the back of higher taxes for all is not "making people's lives less bad."
Fangirl gets excited because some borrowers get usurious debt lessened but plans to vote for a guy who never pays any contractor what he owes them. Said candidate won't even pay the venues in which he holds his gestapo rallies so he ends up having to hold them somewhere that an assassin can climb up on a rooftop and take potshots at him. Makes perfect sense.
so how good is your arithmetic? Because I’m counting 6 republicans on the court that decided Roe v Wade. In what world is that a “liberal” court? During the Roe v. Wade case, which was decided in 1973, the political makeup of the Supreme Court was as follows: Chief Justice Warren E. Burger - Appointed by President Richard Nixon (Republican) Justice William O. Douglas - Appointed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt (Democrat) Justice William J. Brennan Jr. - Appointed by President Dwight D. Eisenhower (Republican) Justice Potter Stewart - Appointed by President Dwight D. Eisenhower (Republican) Justice Byron White - Appointed by President John F. Kennedy (Democrat) Justice Thurgood Marshall - Appointed by President Lyndon B. Johnson (Democrat) Justice Harry Blackmun - Appointed by President Richard Nixon (Republican) Justice Lewis F. Powell Jr. - Appointed by President Richard Nixon (Republican) Justice William H. Rehnquist - Appointed by President Richard Nixon (Republican)
Biden won't be there for long. But it is funny how many times the Liberals say that Trump will step all over the Constitution when it's Biden doing trying to abuse the office of the presidency and the Constitution. They also hate the fact that Trump redirected funds from the military budget to build part of the wall... Lol, he even mentioned that in last night's speech.
Congress authorized this, just like it authorized Biden's student loan forgiveness. It's the Republican Supreme Court that's having to ignore the text of statutes to reach its preferred policy outcomes. Sad that you hate democracy. Biden doesn't need to get it passed in Congress. Congress already passed it and delegated the authority. Congress knows how to rescind that authority and can do so at any time. Republicans in robes are spitting on the Constitution by overstepping their boundaries in violation of separation of powers. When they ignore the plain text of statutes to block executive policy they don't like, they are not acting as judges. There's an election coming up. Vote him out if you don't like it. Instead, we have Republicans in robes ensuring that even when Republicans lose elections, Democrats aren't allowed to implement the policies voters supported. And they're not doing it on the basis of any right enshrined in the Constitution.
Good. I don't want to pay anybody's loans. No one agreed to pay my medical bills after I had cancer a few years ago. Even with good medical insurance I have paid well over 15k out of pocket.
I don't. The money is pissed away all the same, but at least a wall never killed people. It is a totally useless and a pointless insult to anyone with half of a functioning brain, but still not a tool of death.
