do you have a impressive antique knife? Like from the civil war or something? Or are you more into modern ones, like something the SAS might carry. def be cool to have as conversation starter.
I have carried one most if not all of my adult life. I spent 7 years starting at 17 years old in the plumbing trade and always had and needed to carry a pocket knife. Most times some type of Case brand folding pocket knife. I have been in the insurance business over 40 years and still carry a Case pocket knife. If I have my pants on I have my pocket knife.
I've got a WWII bayonet from my grandfather who served. Wonder if it might be worth something one day.
Oh yeah, I do have an antique knife. It's 1 of the only 2 fixed blades I have. I got it last year from that antique mall in Lake City. I was either going to or coming from a Gator game. I'll snap a pic when I get home. I forget about it a lot because it just sits on a shelf in my office. But I'm mostly into modern knives. I like the budget to mid-range ones. I'd rather have 10 different sub-$100 knives than one or two really nice ones. Not a big fan of the Case and Old-Timer styles, but I don't have anything against those who do. I've had this one on my list for a while. I think it's classy. Titanium handle with micarta insert, s35vn blade, with either front flipper deployment or the hole for thumb or spidey flicking.
Condition is everything. And bayonets is something we probably made millions of them. And they don’t break. Clean it, frame it, and be ready to convey a fascinating story. Did he see action? See, I’m already interested.
She stopped posting on Too Hot early last summer after being pressed to answer a question she did not want to answer. Said she was taking a break from Too Hot but I think it was an avoidance tactic. I never carry anything "just in case". Have a knife in the car along with a couple of other things for emergency kit. I have a leatherman in my bike bag, because I am generally miles from anything. Leatherman in my tacklebox. I generally carry very little on my person. Lately, this also includes my phone which I have been leaving in car or at home.
I've got a Leatherman in my backpack that comes with me to work and comes in a garbage truck with me the occasions I end up driving. I've made some incredible roadside repairs using a leatherman. Had a coolant line get ripped out by shit at the landfill and managed to replace it with hot tub hose and fittings from a hardware store. Leatherman should sponsor me.
I was carrying very small, cheap pocket knife for awhile to open packages, etc. Had it with me when I walked in the federal courthouse. The guard suggested I stick in the bushes out front. It was there when I came back out.
Here ya go. Pic for reference. Here is my WW1 era Model 1905 bayonet that has been cut down into a knife. They were made for the Springfield m1903 rifle. It was made by Springfield Armory in 1918. Someone had shortened it and cut the lugs off of it. Judging by the petina where the lugs were cut off, I think was modified quite a while back. I like to think of it as a trench knife, but I don't know for if it ever saw combat and I think it would be frowned upon if soldiers were out there destroying government property like that. It sits on a shelf in my office with a few WW2 items I've collected. I happened to pass by it, in a random case of non-military items, at Webb's Antique Mall in Lake City. I think it was maybe 30 bucks? Had to grab it.
I carry a pocket knife most everyday. Comes in handy quite often But when I’m at he cabin, I usually have a knife and gun in me. Too many mean two legged meth addicted predators.
I dont carey one all the time, but I have a couple decent ones. I prefer the kind that cut sharply on... ... both sides.
Interesting that first pic, how much longer the first bayonet is vs the bottom one. those look like similar rifles. Maybe take it off the rifle and use like a sword?
Your guess is as good as mine. I don't know much about em. I can't imagine being close enough to the enemy to actually use one, however having one on a trench sweeper shotgun makes a lot of sense, imo.
You can't carry a cigarette lighter into most courthouses or hospitals now days. The guards have told me a couple of times to hide it in the bushes. I guess if you ever need a lighter or a knife just look in the bushes at the courthouse entry.
