Former Sen. Ben Sasse Takes Office as UF President and now announces he is retiring

Sasse talks a big game, but he hasn't been backing it up. (IMO, it's unsurprising considering his background. It's what politicians do.) Only a matter of time before UF gets sued again.

 

And this is why Sasse is the wrong person for the job

 

his inability to clean up central admin which was one of his stated goals has been disappointing for sure.

Resigning as President and transitioning to a teaching role so that he can spend more time with his wife and children in light of health issues his wife is having.

I hope his wife regains her health. That has to be a difficult thing to work through. I would say that Sasse stepping down might be for the best, but I am fearful of who will replace him. DeSantis and his friends have favored politics over competency in hiring for the university and college presidencies.

And for the love of god, don't saddle us with Richard Corcoran.

When other college Presidents were quiet (and/or weak) during the
Israeli invasion and college protests, Sasse was resolute and clear.
The right leader at the right time. Prayers for his wife and family.

 

Uf is in total chaos tonight. My phone is blowing up lol. No one saw this coming. No one in the cabinet had any idea as far as I can figure.

 

Great job by those idiots in the search committee. Maybe find out that the unqualified guy you are shoving into the president's office does not have a sick wife who is nearly an invalid the next time you run a farcical search??

Sadly we will have a couple here trash Sasse all because he was a pub before he became the President at UF. They are the problem!

 

I would argue the bigger issue was hiring someone with no background at a major r1 higher education institution. That has been an issue for sasse since day one and he never resolved it. And now all his non traditional hires are going to bolt. So even more central admin chaos. Hooray.

 

Come on now, guy’s still a human and you can’t seriously hold his wife’s situation against him.

Plus as political lackeys go, could do much worse than Sasse. He at least seems a decent guy.

 

And god help us on the next hire. Hosseini is a clown, and DeSantis hasn't hesitated to inject politics into these decisions. I hope they don't stick us with an even less competent Republican politician. Imagine getting stuck with a dunce like Richard Corcoran, Ray Rodriguez, or Manny Diaz.

 

Unqualified.
Incompetent to run a day care, let alone a major university.
There is literally no way that a proper search would not have discovered the depths of his wife's conditions and the potential impact on his ability to both care for her and carry out his responsibilities.

So yes, actually I can and if we had used a proper search committee, this would never have been an issue because he was never qualified to begin with.

 

He was a DEI hire. Totally unqualified but given the job because a conservative needed to be represented. I was unimpressed with his lack of vision.

Sorry about his wife. I didn’t know that she was sick. Hard to do a job like that under the circumstances.
