I think we will have to be leaps and bounds better than we were last year to get to six wins. If we get to eight, that will be a great job by everybody involved.
Future NFL players will always sit out if they aren’t in the playoff. And furthermore, the season will only be much longer for a handful of teams.
We have had 3 losing seasons in a row and mid a major rebuild, and Vegas has us at 4.5 wins this year. We have one of the toughest schedules in college football history. If we went 8-4, with recruiting on fire, and we are being talked about in regards to the 12 team playoff, and did not get in. Who would not be super happy about that season? I'd take that in a minute.
I think we would have to beat either Tx or UGA for that to happen. Losing to highly ranked teams, even if close, will not get you in unless that is the ONLY loss you have. In that case, we would have to be 10-2 just losing to TX and GA.
It sounds strange but we should be estatic with 8 wins. Anything more than 4.5 is better than Vegas and those guys don’t miss much.
10-2 with those two losses would no doubt be a lock. I suspect 9 wins would be a safe bet also. Pick any nine wins you want and there are good wins.
If chalk holds, yes. But then it depends who and how we lose But the reality is some teams will be better, some will be worse.
I was just asking if the writer was saying we were the only team in the the league who can get in with 8 wins, not saying we were going to.
8 wins would mean we are in the 10-20th range in the country. That is perfectly reasonable in year 3 6 wins means we are under .500 vs teams with a pulse In year 3 we should be better than Miss State and UCF. So that means 6 wins means we go 3-6 vs good teams. If that is our record vs good teams then we aren’t a good team My expectation is we are roughly average amongst good teams. We have 9 games against top 25-30 teams. Average means we go 4-5 or 5-4 against that group. I don’t think it’ll happen, but there is nothing wrong with expecting competitive/average performance vs top 25 in year 3.
I didn’t say top 25 teams are average, I said we should expect average results vs top 25 teams. If we are #15 in the country we should be roughly .500 vs top 25 teams If we win 2-3 games those teams then we aren’t a top 25 squad and that’s not acceptable in Y3
