I was in Vegas for this game. I placed a huge $$$$ bet. I was more nervous than a nun in a cucumber patch.
I loved that all of our title games were not nerve wracking at all (though the first minute of the Ohio State game wasnt fun). You could just sit back and enjoy it with plenty of time left. Or in the case of Nebraska, uh, just lose hope quickly lol. I guess this game was close score-wise, but I never felt like we'd lose.
I'll never forget, our seats were in the Oklahoma section, there was a smoking area about halfway up the stadium ramp. I was standing there before the game talking to another Gator fan surrounded by Oklahoma fans. The other Gator mentioned Tebow and some Oklahoma fan said, "I think all Gator fans have a love affair going with Tebow." For Christmas my granddaughter had given me a locket style Gator keychain with her picture in it. Just to mess with her I took her picture out and put Tebow's in it. I reached in my pocket and pulled out the key chain and opened it. LOL the Oklahoma fan looked at it and said "You Gators are just gay!!!" then turned and walked away. Me and the other Gator fan just stood there and laughed our asses off.
I may be crazy but I always thought as bad as that game turned out we would have won if Jaquez Green had not gotten injured. Before his injury we were out playing them, his injury was so nasty it just deflated everything.
I told the bartender to hit me with a fishbowl gin martini every time Nebraska scored a TD (which I slammed as it hit the bar). To this day I've never seen the second half.
I was 14 years old when we lost that game, I was one month from being 15. I remembering crying and promising we would win the NC next year. I was right, how I will never know, but the Nebraska game gutted me.
I actually had feelings for both QBs in that game. Of course Danny Wuerffel was my favorite but Tommy Fraiser was from the high school I went to. I watched him play at Manatee High and followed his career at Nebraska.
