Let a jury see and hear the evidence/testimony and decide if he is guilty or not guilty. What a concept.
Jury selection begins today https://www.cnn.com/2024/05/13/politics/bob-menendez-what-to-know-trial/index.html
Glad to see bipartisan support for prosecuting Menendez, which I share. I will perhaps unwisely inject some partisan sentiments. Heard a podcast yesterday talking Aileen Cannon and her management of that case. Menendez was indicted after Trump and is now in trial. Trump is years away from trial, if ever. There are some additional issues but nothing except judicial sabotage to explain that big a disparity. And Menendez has no group of aligned elected officials attending his trial and giving press conferences trying to undermine the prosecution.
The lawfare keeps coming. Sen. Bob Menendez found guilty on all counts in federal corruption trial Sen. Bob Menendez was found guilty on all counts Tuesday in his federal corruption trial. Federal prosecutors in New York alleged the New Jersey Democrat accepted hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes in the form of cash, gold bars, mortgage payments and more in exchange for the senator's political clout. Three New Jersey businessmen who were also charged, along with the governments of Egypt and Qatar, were the alleged recipients. The jury deliberated for about 13 hours over three days. Menendez pleaded not guilty to 16 federal charges including bribery, fraud, acting as a foreign agent and obstruction.
Legit, only those involving a republican are witch hunts, weaponization of the doj etc etc etc He broke the law and got convicted. I hope he gets more than a slap on the wrist.
When their own gets arrested: Dems - If they broke the law them lock them up!! Pubs - It's a witch hunt!!
He will appeal but he is likely to see real jail time. Guy was about as corrupt as you can get in Washington and deserves to die in prison. Hopefully common sense will prevail and will be removed from the Senate soon.
It actually is, corruption is extremely legal in this country, money is 'free speech' after all. There's an excellent chance this conviction doesn't hold up given our legal framework now. If it does survive challenge, we are basically just testing the outer limits of what you can get away with.
If not them, then Trump. Setting corrupt politicians free seems to be his one bipartisan inkling. I wonder why that is.
We literally have a party proposing a return to the spoils system and 19th century style patronage and some people are still like "corruption is a bad career move in politics." I would say not selling out is a worse career move if a career is your concern.
Witch hunt! Rigged! Two-tiered system of justice! Weaponization of the DOJ! Corrupt judge and jury! Am I doing it right, Trump supporters?
I read he is planning on running as an independent for the Senate? Is that true still with this conviction?
Wasn’t there a recent SCOTUS decision that gratuities paid after an action are not bribes? Too late to save Gold Bar Bob though.
I don't know if he is on the ballot yet but apparently even a felony conviction would not keep him from winning as a independent if he chooses to do so.
