Crooks was as much motivated by politics as was John Hinckley. Hinckley had severe mental health problems and was motivated by the need for attention. Roughly six months before he shot President Reagan, Hinckley stalked Jimmy Carter and would have shot Carter given the opportunity, an obvious indication that politics were not a factor in his attempted assassination of Reagan. Hinckley stalked Carter in Tennessee – Rutherford County Tennessee Historical Society John Hinckley stalked Carter in Dayton before shooting Reagan I suspect that in the end the investigation will reveal that Crooks had a psychological profile very similar to that of Hinckley as well as most of the school shooters.
Great post and I would add that it also probably applies to shooting of the ARizona congresswoman- Gabby Giffords... Its been a few years so i may be mistaken but the shooter was clearly a nut case with no real political motivation. Yet many on the left blamed Sarah Palin. They both do it- it's tiresome and ridiculous.
In a way it's somewhat ironic since the allegations came from the opposite end of the political spectrum but the way the left tried to blame Sarah Palin for the shooting of Gabby Giffords because Palin supposedly used crosshairs in an ad came immediately to mind when Republicans, including their now vice presidential nominee, and the right-wing media tried to blame Biden for the attempted assassination of Trump because he used the word bulls-eye in a conversation or Dan Goldman because he referred to the elimination of Trump nine months ago.
It’s pretty clear the MSM have turned on Joe Biden and Biden can’t handle it. Biden’s rabid responses to Holt come off like “who took my car keys?!?”
His blaming voters and anyone pointing out his age-related decline, underscores how delusional and tine-deaf he has become.
I was away on vacation during the shooting, but I thought I read (or heard) that the shooter was a registered Republican, and while he gave $10 or $15 a few years ago to a Dem Committee (no idea what it was for or whether it was for national or local),his home had Trump signs on the lawn. That doesn’t sound like it was a left-wing fanatic.
As VA says above- all available evidence indicates politics had ZERO to do with this. I agree with VA- its similar to Hinckley shooting Reagan in 81. He could have shot Carter. He didn't care about politics. But it's early and other facts may come to light.
Trump is a cluster B narcisisst that would let the country burn to save his own skin. He has repeatedly suggested that his fans use violence to prevent outcomes he doesn't want, even dragging people's innocent family members into his issues. Even Mitt Romney had to hire private security for his family due to MAGAt threats. The phony bothsidesism is ridiculous.
Based on what I’ve seen of the gunman, would not be surprised if he was a rabid Democrat one day and a rabid Republican the next. Depending on which day of the week it was, he was a radical leftist or he was MAGA. Obviously very mentally unstable and being 20 years old, even well adjusted and “normal” people in that age range tend to have very fluid ideas about their politics.
Over the last three days he's been the subject of a very extensive background investigation and so far there has been no indication that he has any interest in politics at all with the possible exception of the very small donation to an unnamed Democratic candidate when he was still in high school.
Democrats were never concerned about having dysfunctional president. They are only concerned now that they cannot defeat Trump with a dysfunctional candidate.
Never been a huge fan of Lester Holt, but the blank stares he gave when Biden jumped all over him were priceless.
If so It's when Trump was a registered Democrat, and that's what they do. But I know you're going inventing BS.
And the other day you were certain that Biden was behind the assassination attempt. Such rabid speculation
Trump is a political candidate, and a man attempted to kill him. If politics had nothing to do with it, then he would have killed someone else. So, the claim that there was no political motivation seems fantastic. Pretty much the only connection most Americans have to Trump is through the public discourse that surrounds Trump. I don't think we can divorce the shooter's selection of the target from the public discourse surrounding that target. Something he knew about Trump motivated him to select Trump as his target. Nonetheless, that is one of many factors to consider. Mental health is also a valid consideration when we analyze what happened in this situation.
