Supremely talented, hardworking people like Deion don’t need to attend class to become supremely successful in life.

You talking about in the video game or real life? And John Madden probably isn’t going to say ANYONE is a terrible tackler while he’s broadcasting. Announcers say “he is about the best person in X position” every single game no matter what team is playing. It’s all made up to fill the void of calling plays. Troy Aikman said Deion was terrible at tackling….but I guess you know more than him….

Are you saying if a football player is talented enough and works hard he should get a pass on being a student? Not sure I understand orangeblue. I know I’m old fashioned, well, old period, but I still believe a football player who is on scholarship should attend class at the university who is providing that scholarship.

One of those has to at least pretend to want to tackle.

I guess we shouldn't be surprised when the guy who was called out for attendance by the former player who literally had an NCAA rule named after him because he never attended classes, doesn't show up when he's supposed to.

As of now, they still have to show up for basket weaving if they’re mentally capable. If not, they have easier classes.

That sounds great and noble and all, but the reality is most superstar athletes especially back then were just biding their time on college campus until they could go pro. And I’m talking about star athletes at just about every program.

Hall of Famers with multiple Super Bowl championships are smart enough to figure out ways to get it done, I’d trust them to figure it out

That wouldn’t be much different from some of the Gator defenses over the years

Sure, ok….I can kind of agree with this, maybe….after the fact that they are Hall of Famers it’s easy to say that. But a lot of these kids have talent, a lot of it…and I’m willing to wager that the MASS majority of them are telling themselves they are going to be a superstar in the NFL and in the Hall of Fame. But what’s the reality of that? It’s already a low chance they get to the NFL, and even a lower chance to get in the HOF. Only a dumb person would put all their eggs in that 1 basket. I know the world doesn’t work on “if’s”. But what IF Deion had some sort of bad injury prior to the NFL? Then he’s just some poor kid from Ft Myers that didn’t make it, no education, etc. he’s a fortunate one, but MANY are not.

You’re right, of course. There has been entitlement in varying degrees to the star athletes at almost every university. It’s nothing new. But cases like Sanders were so extreme that in his case the NCAA actually created a rule stating that student/athletes actually had to attend class. It’s even referred to as the Deon Sanders Rule. That would be enough to embarrass most universities but seems to me it’s a badge of honor for Sanders and FSU.
I realize the term student/athlete is a misnomer now but, like I said: I’m old.

I think that’s why he’s made it a point to try to mentor some of these young men, so they don’t slack off in class like he did. Some of them will listen to him, others will end up lost in the sauce like Cormani.

Guys like Woodson, Green and Hayes would have thoroughly loved to come up and smack a RB head on, and were superior run stoppers on the edge. Also, I don't know of any LB in the NFL who did not absolutely love hard contact. If they didn't they would not last very long.

I'll give him the benefit the doubt and assume that now as an old man he realizes the importance of attending class, as he's strict about his players attending all of their classes.
