I will go with RB as its deep and talented. Diverse talents in the room also. The one im most concerned with is TE. Not that i dont believe there is talent there, just need to see more production.
Dead sure about: DB (if healthy) Biggest concern: DL (need someone ANYONE to command a double team and STILL be a disrupter)
I’d go with WR. RB is gonna do what it always does, but I’m optimistic that the WRs are gonna show up this year. I agree with Bobby about DL still being biggest concern. We need to get pressure on the QB to help out the DBs.
RB: We are proven and deep here. LB: The unit performed poorly last year, and I am worried about depth. The spot next to Shemar James might be the biggest question mark on the team in my opinion.
He is, but he is a transfer. USCe fans say while he had a high tackle rate he was slow and couldn't catch anyone. It is hard to know if that is sour grapes or USCe fans who know more than us because they watched USCe football all year. Time will tell if he plays well, but I don't view Pup Howard as a sure fire answer at the other LB spot. It is a question mark. That does not mean we won't play well or someone won't step up. It could happen there and at several other spots where we have question marks. Buck was a close second for me in terms of a position of uncertainty where we have question marks. We can pretend like we don't have question marks on defense, but after last year's performance I think it is fair to say several positions on defense have question marks.
Rb will be fine, oline is a big question mark along with the entire dense. On defense, I have no reason to be confident in any group.
I think usce was sour grapes...how many times did we hear wiscy fans say stuff about Mertz? I will make my own decision on Howard when I see the play on the field...maybe their scheme didn't work for him or team chemistry wasn't there for him..sometimes a change of scenery helps
I am not a fan of evaluating "rooms" - the 5th TE on the roster is irrelevant in 2024. I can argue he's irrelevant beyond that too, because he can be replaced with a transfer if he doesn't perform. My assessment of rooms are based on top-end talent, because we have zero shot of taking a real step forward without all-SEC type performances. So, I think CB is the best "room" on paper.... And LB has had dismal impact recently, so they are last in my book until someone emerges as a real disruptor. And I'd say DL is tied with LB, although there is a long list of potential impact players there, so I am hopeful SOMEONE emerges.
Optimistic: RB - it's a solid group and the easiest position to contribute early. We have plenty of options. Concern: DL - barely edging the LB group as my biggest concern. A bunch of players need to get a lot better. Could be the lowest sack total and TFL by our DL in many years.
