I can't speak towards the assumption that "most diversity diversity practices are geared towards ensuring worthy candidates aren't overlooked " but I can tell you that in my experience with 3 different entities that is not always the case. In one instance a representative in charge of bringing diversity to organizations openly said it to a full room of employees to everyone's surprise.

Out of 20 plus examples of female hires I can think of off hand, I can name 3 that I had every bit of confidence in regarding their respective jobs requirements(1 cop, 2 firefighters). That's not to say we don't have plenty of incompetent, out of shape or whatever underqualified males as well. There are more than people are aware of. One difference however is that those substandard employees slip through the cracks and get carried by others where as the unqualified female employees have been celebrated by the departments and social media PR campaigns.

All of this is to say that someone holding a position doesn't prove anything towards their worthiness of it.

In any event, the mistakes made seem to be at a command level and I don't think it matters if the leadership was male or female and I'm not taking that angle at all with what happened here. I don't see "diversity" as an issue.

One of the biggest surprises to me is the communication failure on an operation like this. The second local authorities became aware there was any suspicious issue, some sort of communication should have been able to have been made to SS who could have then provided cover or removed Trump until the disturbance could be investigated. I'd imagine there was some sort of chain of command that would allow a dedicated supervisor to contact a SS liason. Just baffling at this point.

The first shot is going to be the only really accurate shot that guy is going to get off. Hitting him in the ear with a follow up shot (if it wasn't the first shot) was pure luck. Anyone who says thats an easy shot under that kind of duress for a novice is wrong. Just my opinion. Did you see the rifle and set up of the sniper who took him out? That's a person and firearm who can take out a target easily at 1,000 yards or more all day.

Remember when Obama said he was "6eally good at killing people"? Given that Meet Gingrich at jimos Obama is floating around behind the scenes making key decisions, is it possible that Obama played a role in Trump not getting adequate Secret Service protection). RFK Jr gets no SS protection.

AP article today says the officer went up the ladder but had no chance to unholster his gun in these circumstances. They had received reports that Crooks was acting strangely and pacing by the metal detectors. The police were looking for him but couldn’t find him

Another factor in this shooting is the odd location of this rally. Why is Trump holding rallies at places like this with nearby rooftops for shooters instead of more secure indoor locations where you could screen people more easily?

It's because he's held rallies at all those kinds of places and never paid the bill afterwards. He's not welcome back.

I agree. I notice they kid was wearing glasses in some of the high school pictures. Eyesight makes a big difference when using iron sights or a peep sight compared to using a scope. When I was young I was a much better shot with iron sights than I am today. A scope makes up for my old eyes not being so good these days.

That last part is astonishing. They spotted the dude and lost him. I simply can’t comprehend how that happens at a campaign rally in this day and age for the leading candidate and former President. Simply unbelievable.

That is kind of my point, but the rhetoric from Obama, Biden, etc has largely also been to demonize those on the other side of the aisle also in an effort of get votes. Same with members of congress on both sides. When leaders take the position that the other side’s point of view is incorrect and not worthy of respect instead of a difference of opinion based on reasonably held beliefs and values, is it a wonder that followers do the same?

My sincere hope is that this becomes a bit of a watershed moment for us as a country in the same way 9/11 was where we are able to come together as a country. I’ve heard Biden’s campaign is pulling Trump attack ads and I have heard that Trump is throwing out his RNC speech and shifting the tone to be one much more towards uniting us rather than dividing us. I hope both are true and that from this point we can start to conduct our political discourse on the road rather than in the gutters.

So wrong. Trump’s crew arranged that unprecedented speech AND was simultaneously pressuring state electors as well as Mike Pence to override the election results. I believe he even implored Mike Pence in a desperate pitch to “do the right thing” in that very speech. That’s not “a narrative” being spoon fed. That’s literally what happened. That Pence didn’t play ball is why the crowd wanted to “Hang Mike Pence”. The fact you think actual reality is “a narrative” is highly unfortunate.

It seems your GOP state media is hung up on 1 aspect only, whether the words of the speech qualify as a pure criminal “incitement to riot”, and it’s true he peppered in some “peacefully” along with the inflammatory language, and most likely those words were there as intentional cover for the obviously inflammatory intent. The problem is to believe THAT narrative you’d need heavy blinders for everything else that went into that day. Ironic you accused others of being “spoonfed a narrative”, but you (as is typical of many) have absolutely no self awareness as to the narrative YOU are parroting.

As soon as that happened, you wonder why there wasn’t an effort to get Trump off the stage. Not sure of the timing involved but radio travels pretty fast.

while there is some truth to this, it is certainly another hot take at this point. get out the vote in swing state with strong local support to buoy his ego is more likely

The WH is supposed to be the most secure building in America yet there are fence hoppers that make it into the residence (Obama) and the door to the East Wing (trump) and these guys just strolled up not necessarily with bad intent. The fence hopper in trump’s case was on the grounds for 17 minutes before being stopped. Alarm systems failed some were turned off. And that is for a static site. Imagine all the failures possible for a temporary 1-time site.

That is the beauty of saying fight and don't fight in the same speech. Your disciples know what they need to do, and they have your words to quote to to prove you didn't point them in that direction.

Anecdotal alert. I go watch local
High school games in a multitude of sports. Attend gator games and watch the Bucs when they don’t suck. Why are athletes at every level getting bigger, stronger and faster and yet the presidents detail has seemingly taken a different direction. I’m not in charge but under my command there would be significant changes to personal yesterday.

Thanks for that. That was one of the truly great moments following 9/11. I was a senior in high school and the wound was fresh and we didn't quite know as a country how to start the healing and move forward yet. Say what you want about the actions afterwards but GWB was all of America's President that night and that throw was symbolic of our country's and it's people's resiliency.
