Let's face it we are all passionate about our views, politics and other subject of interests. Yet we deride one another with words, slogans, insults that only leads to further divide and hate. We are united in our support for Gator sports programs. I could sit by anyone of you at a game and high five you after a win. I believe we have more in common than what divides us and a positive change can happen. I believe both parties, candidates seek civility in how we treat one another and hopefully we will see it with them. We can debate our differences and yet be fully respectful to each other. We are Americans, this is the United States, doesn't mean uniformity but united in the love of this nation and a love for one another as human beings. It's time for change and today it starts with me.
The disappointing part of this forum is that it is a mostly well educated membership and yet the vitriol and hyperbole is present in every thread. With a general population that embraces inaccurate memes and hateporn social media sites for their news I don't see how the pattern can be reversed.
Yesterday I saw some old fart (at the corner intersection of church no less) holding a homemade sign that said “if you voted for Biden you are a (frigging) moron” - or something to that effect. I assume he was motivated to get out after the shooting, but who knows. So I think the answer to your question is no. Even though that guy is just one individual, I think that’s still the general tenor of Trumps base. Even right at the scene of the shooting, you may have noticed some in the crowd turning around and flipping off the cameras for… reasons. These people don’t do debate or logic.
Americans in general are fine folks. I hope we can avoid a bloodbath. If it comes to that I might just inject bleach into my veins.
(A completely normal thing in America happens) Response: Cant we be nice to each other for a while? (but not change anything fundamental about this country)
"These people..." You should get a load of yoooz ppl. Talk about "don't debate or logic[sic]". Have your daily Trumpgasms on here, rabidly spittling vitriol, condescension, and disdain, then project everything y'all are, across the aisle... It's your mirror reflection that you're despising. "Th[o]se people" are your people, reciprocating the same radioactivity you're emanating.
Totally agree. I think we could list every issue and its particular spectrum of solutions. Often, big picture, the goal is the same. It’s just a disagreement on how to achieve the same goal. And the debate over the best solutions should be what is focused on. That’s healthy. It’s the classification of everyone who doesn’t agree with me is evil is what is not healthy. I think a lot of that is due to bad actor instigators and poor information sources and an over the top adherence to some ideology which clouds judgement and rational thought. In the end extremists will do what they always do, but I think the rest of us ( vast majority) need to take a step back and realize that the issues we debate have not changed much and there is certainly no reason to wish violence on your fellow man because I don’t get my way.
If anyone thinks this site is a dysfunctional mess I'd invite you to my next family Thanksgiving for comparison.
Look we can all come together and support arms sales to client states and increasing the military budget, lets all get back to backing the political violence that doesn't affect us personally and kills other people outside our borders.
You’re in the weeds on your opposition to others solutions. What is the bigger goal? Also debate the ideas, not the person.
