    At 369 feet that's a big boy.

Looks like my point stands quite well

The one in which you wait to figure out all the answers. There are still a lot of questions. A lot!

Curious from our regular shooters. Would crooks need to be an experienced shooter to make the shot from where he did? Would a novice shooter have a a good chance of getting that close to killing Trump?

Really curious as to what it takes to be accurate from that distance from those that do shoot?

Depends on the gun and scope. With a standard .223 AR platform (no idea what he used as I haven't chosen to dig into details), under stress, slightly moving target, not surprised he missed at all. I likely wouldn't have hit his ear and I probably have lot more than he has behind a rifle. This guy is not a trained sniper. If I were required to take someone out like that in a military situation I'd aim for middle of the chest and tap a few off.

I've missed deer completely in a hunting situation with a rifle I can touch holes in 3 shot groups at 100 yards with a rest under relaxed circumstances.

I see projection has become your favorite sport.

    Perhaps it always was.

I would imagine it's hard to compare shooting in a range vs. shooting a real target knowing full well you are about to get shot yourself.

I wonder if the shooter believed the Democrat lie that Trump said Nazis and white supremacists were "fine people." Scott Adams calls it the "Fine People Hoax." Scott's list of hoaxes is approaching 50. Democrats love to lie. Li s have consequences.

I don't know about that. Some of you walking around, I can't even see a belt buckle. For a guy his age, with his schedule, he's a walking medical miracle. Hey some guys can do this, and guys that look like Biden aren't half that healthy. Not fair, but who said life is fair? And I'm not one to laugh, my pile of meds goes up yearly. I already said no twice to be put on a statin.

Oh I’m not 100% saying they do.

I was speaking in general terms.

I believe if I own a gun I should keep it in a place where only I or some I trust implicitly has access.

Perhaps that’s because I know more than a few people who died by self inflicted GSW because they had too easy access to guns.

And before I get skewered I’m pro 2nd amendment

That is kind of why I posed the question. What are the odds this kid who apparently had his fathers gun gets anywhere close to Trump with a shot?

There are so many unanswered questions!

People who practice and shoot guns as a hobby can hit a spot the size of a quarter from 150 yards with a scoped rifle that has been sighted in. Many deer hunters shoot with a rapid heartbeat and adrenaline and hit where they are aiming at that distance all the time. A man is a large target at that range and it seems he missed him with several shots. I would be shocked if this guy was a "gun nut" and regular range guy. He is more likely watched to many movies and video games.
That is not a far distance when it comes to shooting rifles with that type of ammo. In many areas of the country hunters take game from that distance and more on a regular basis. In general anyone that knows how to load and chamber the rifle can make that shot if the scope is dialed in. No need really for windage or bullet drop or rise just put the cross hairs on the target. Again if the shooter is unsteady from nerves or the scope is not dead on he can miss like this guy did. Someone that has a lot of shooting practice would make that shot easy and out of several shots would have hit Trump at least once in my opinion. Actually at that distance and practiced shooter could hit a man at that distance with regular iron sights.

There should be a manifesto somewhere coming out of his. My guess is it won’t make much sense but we may be able to glean what he was trying to say.

There are reports that the gunman was confronted by local police soon before he fired and turned his gun on the cop briefly. He might have been agitated and rushed to re-aim.
