Nice pick up here as he has a huge upside and I’ll always trust Saban on his evaluations. Now get VB3 on the 21st and we are rolling!!
Class of 2025 LB The 6’1 220 LB from Brewton, AL chose the Gators over Ole Miss, LSU, & Washington Was previously committed to Alabama.
Outstanding pickup. 6'1"/220 as a rising senior plus the bonus of knowing he was good enough for Saban's Alabama. Brewton is just about due north of Pensacola on the Florida/Alabama state line. I can't recall UF picking up a player from there. Welcome aboard Myles.
True, but they must have some old money there, the schools and sports facilities are nice, and at least TR Miller has had some competitive teams over the years. They had some flooding issues downtown there many years ago and of course Hurricane Isaac really changed the look of the town when it blew through there in 2004.
So, this guy used to be a 4* star recruit when he was committed to Bama and now he's a 3* star... seems legit. Par for the course. Florida football recruiting flips 4-star LB Myles Johnson from Alabama
It's the injury. 3 stars is fine if he plays like a 4 star. The other thing, Bama already has 5 LB commits without Myles.
He got injured and suddenly he's less valuable? That is their story and you think it's okay? A player that get's injured would have to sustain a life-changing injury not to come back at least as good as he was. Maybe it was a very serious injury? C'mon man... these ranking services have been doing this to Gator recruits for years... and it's several players per year, not one or two...
There's no story, he's a LB who is rehabilitating from an injury that could affect his future. For all we know he will re-earn a fourth star this season. If I learned that the sames sites failed to downgrade a georgia, bama, ohio state commit who suffered a potentially career limiting injury I would question that. We really don't track downgrades from teams across the country but doubt we are the only team whose commits lost a star. Hope we get two more good>great commits to go with him. If our class ends up 20th but has 20 that play like 4 stars eventually, it's fine with me. I think we will be coming off of an improved season so we should do better than 20th. And fwiw, we moved from 60s to 40s on 0n3 with a couple of commits so that's good. I really like our DL commits, need OL. Hope the staff is in on OL waiting to see how we do this season.
Injury? It would be nice to know what he is recovering from. His sophomore film on 247 sports is full of him playing RB. Clearly the fastest player on the field in the games shown. I'm sure there are junior highlights at LB, but I didn't look. From 247 Sports: Scouting Report H.S. Athletic Background Also plays basketball and runs track. Ran an 11.15 100 as a junior, per Athletic.net. As a sophomore, posted season-best times of an 11.27 100 and a 23.17 200, according to MileSplit. Averaged 10.5 points and 6.3 rebounds per game during sophomore basketball season, per MaxPreps. Ran freshman sprint times of 11.79 in the 100 and 24.83 in the 200. I like these multi-sport athletes. In Myles Johnson's case, it looks like he can play defense and offense. Improved in the 100 over 2 years from 11.79 to 11.15. I don't know if that is fast today or not, but he was the fastest on the field when he was playing RB. If LB doesn't work out, he kind of reminds me in size and running style of Fred Taylor. However, hopefully, UF has an up and comer for our LB room.
While there are often recurring recruiting ranking anti gator bias… the kid tore his ACL and missed his jr year. Originally committed to Sabans staff. New staff at Bama didnt make any attempts to keep him and recruited more linebackers. Kid decommitted. He was downgraded to 3 star before he decommitted. when you tear an ACL and miss most of a season and all the camps that the recruiting sites host, it is definitely going to hurt most recruits rankings. however, I hear he is back to running like his old self. Needs to compete in games and likely attend camps to rise back up.
