To that administration and local government? Nope! They killed red and black lives and nothing changed. I couldn’t fathom the response in G-Ville if similar was occurring.

There's a long-standing aura of tawdriness about UGA that has set them apart since at least 1942. If you're wondering WTH I'm talking about, try googling their 1942 NC season and the craven stunt they pulled to keep their FB team intact while everyone else in America was focused on confronting the Axis. At a time when America was in dire straits ('42 was really bad), UGA arranged to keep their FB team intact - and then went on to merrily pummel their greatly diminished opponents who had a keener sense of duty to the nation. The fact that they perceived any glory in winning at any cost under those circumstances speaks volumes about who they were in that moment. They had no sense of propriety or responsibility to the "community" then and they clearly have none now. Kirby and his cohorts are the living embodiment of the "Bulldog Way."

Hevesy was not even close to Mullen's worst coaches. But he was one of them. On second thought... I can't think of one assistant coach that Mullen had that was worth a damn. But Hevesy was not the worst.

This is coming from a former Mullen supporter...
One of the biggest indictments against Mullen is what happened to his assistants after he was fired in 21.
Not one of them got a promotion, and very few ended up in the Power 5 as a lateral move.
I think if they got jobs they either took a demotion, or went to a non P5 team, or simply stopped coaching.

What a contrast to Spurrier, Meyer, and even Zook.
Their assistants did great things- and many went on to be head guys.

As more time passes its clear even to a former Mullen fan like myself...
Mullen was a great play caller, but had no idea how to be a head coach. NONE.

Enter Gene Ellenson and his legendary motivational talk to the team when spurrier would bring him in as a guest before a Georgia game.

Well said. IMO, DM could scheme up an offense to match the talent on hand as well as anyone I've seen at UF since the HBC. The job he did with scheming to Trask's strengths was shockingly effective, if belated. Unfortunately, he never demonstrated much in the way of people skills (Darth Gator, really?) or the ability to be ruthlessly critical of his own shortcomings or those of his assistants. Throw in DM's generally subpar recruiting, plus a rocky start on the sidelines by his replacement, and we are still struggling to regain our feet going into year three of a total rebuild. It is what it is. GG! Beat Miami!

I’m sure hoping we get to somewhere around eight wins. It’s going to take a lot of grit and determination and luck. We are not going to out talent very many teams on our schedule. we favored and only three games the entire season. Vegas does not make odds because they hate the gators.

Rick I certainly did not write that Hev was Mullen's worst coach.

I know you meant to say that you were the Mullen supporter, right? But when he was announced he had a great many of us fans fooled. In year two I began to suspect that Mullen was here as a stepping stone to a life in the NFL... Maybe it was his lack of real urgency in his job as our head football coach and the chatter of conversations he had (leaked) with Urban Meyer...

I think I may have misread what you said, I also doubt anyone really thinks that Hevesy was Mullen's worse assistant coaches.

Edited: I mean worst in the field coaches... Everyone knows he was a complete POS to players and their families.

Torrian Gray - DB coach at South Carolina
Christian Robinson - LB coach at Bama
David Turner - DL coach at Mississippi State
Ron English - DC at Louisville
Billy Gonzales - WR coach at Florida
Greg Knox - was interim HC at Mississippi State in Dec
Tim Brewster - TE coach at UNC Charlotte
    Hevesy - not coaching
Brian Johnson - Washington Commanders asst HC and passing game coordinator
Todd Grantham - DL coach for the Saints

Never let the facts get in the way of a good story. His coaching staff did fine after they left UF and one even came back. Brian Johnson was the best of the bunch but several others are very good at their jobs (and got promotions).

    not to Kirby

I didn't like him as our OC, the offense excelled due to talent.

Gray moved on to SC while Mullen was still here.
Billy G went on to FAU, which is a downgrade. I'm glad he's back though. The only knock on his was recruiting, and Napier can fill in that gap. He was always recognized as a very good WR coach.
Knox went to Buffalo to coach RBs after leaving UF and hasn't had a real coaching job since. But sure, he filled in for another fired coach for 2 games at MSU (and didn't get the job).
Tim Brewster is in a downgraded position.
Brian Johnson was the reason for Trask's success, and he was not left over after Mullen was fired as he had already departed for a better position.
Grantham had been a DC/assistant HC for over a decade before being an analyst under Saban after leaving UF and is now a DL coach. Downgrade.

So yes, "very few" of the coaches remaining after Mullen was fired ended up with lateral or better positions. CRob, Turner, and English are the only 3.

    I appreciate the update.
But TO BE CLEAR I was talking about his last staff. So Brian Johnson doesn't count. Gray doesn't count.
I'll let Stab's post correct your correction. This is what I meant.
I knew I could have missed 1-2 which is why I said I think...

Ahhh...someone from the national press! Local press won't touch this with a 20' pole after Kirby got that AJC reporter fired.

There is something to be said about being the only big program in the state.

You know in Florida journalists are looking for dirt on one of the big three (cough cough Matt Baker).
