You could have voted for the 5th option. It may not be exactly how you worded it, but it embodies the idea of waiting it out and trying to win the 2028 election.

Except that it implies that the problem is the actions of Republicans in office which can only be fixed by a later election of Democrats. Once that genie is out of the bottle, the Democrats won’t be able to put it back in. In fact, they will probably try to make matters worse, as each side uses the previous actions of the other to justify their next step.

Yes there were some people there intent to do damage, no doubt. And those people should be prosecuted fully. No, there was never any ‘threat to democracy’. Come on man. We have F15s. That’s just absurd. The most extensive damage from the Cap riot was broken office furniture, Stolen laptops and broken windows. The capitol riots were pikers compared to BLM riots per an axios article below that states 1B in damages. . Measure by injured or killed and property destroyed and BLM owns the Cap riot by a large margin. Believe what you wish.

    https://www.axios.com/2020/09/16/riots-cost-property-damage

The vandalism and looting following the death of George Floyd at the hands of the Minneapolis police will cost the insurance industry more than any other violent demonstrations in recent history, Axios has learned

and there are reems of footage of bloody police across the country from The summer of love.

Nearly 400 NYPD Cops Hurt During NYC's Two Weeks of Protest Over George Floyd's Death

Well, if we were to take trump’s own advice we might get the “2nd amendment folks” involved. But then when has trump ever had a good idea?

unh? What does that have to do with a dem losing the election?. maybe just as relevant post mobs overturning cars after a team wins a championship.

maga stormed the capital and beat LEO men and women specifically because Dear Leader lost the election. His followers did it literally under the flag of ”TRUMP”. The mob used violence in an attempt to stop the transfer of power. They wanted to kill our gov officials. And all this is what the op is referencing.

Maybe a small silver-lining is now at least our federal agencies will be prepared as they now know how violent maga will become if dems somehow win. Imo 2024 would be much worse if Dear Leader loses, to say Harris. Ugh what a mess.

30 sec video. TW for violent content:

I consider the checks and balances of the Constitution to be an implied part of democracy in the American context. Either democracy works or it doesn't. The 5th option is for those who think Trump is a threat, but they are willing to trust the system to work until he can be ousted by the electorate in 2028. Impeachment is possible I suppose, but impeachment itself is a feature of democracy.

I find these discussions productive because they work towards digging up what the consensus is. So, what we are really seeing is "Trump is an existential threat to democracy" really means he is not enough of a threat that he must be instantly deposed or dealt with, but there is a parenthesis there that democracy, while it might elect Trump, might also defeat Trump if he is everything 40% or so of people's imaginations suggest he is.

Ridiculously small sample size. To extrapolate a single vote into 7.65 million is intellectually dishonest and you know it. You are not arguing in good faith. How Christian of you. Stop being a fraud Christian. The more you do it the more you are going to burn. You are flat out lying. You're "saved" BS isn't going to save you anymore. You are KNOWINGLY lying to further your own end goals. Not good.

    Back at it again?

In statistics a sample is the best approximation of the population. Is it a small sample? Absolutely. Would I put a lot of confidence in the sample? No. But even a small sample can tell you something about the population.

You’re right that either the system works, or it doesn’t. And if Trump got elected at this point, I’m actually not sure which one it would be. We would have been in a real pickle last time if Comey, Sessions, Rosenstein, or Pence had done what Trump wanted them to do, but I would say overall the system worked. Many reports have suggested that Trump’s focus this round has been to identify for these positions candidates who will more loyally follow his orders. Our system hasn’t faced such a challenge in my lifetime.

However, to go back to my point above, no matter how much of a threat I think he is, I can never pull the trigger on an extra-constitutional remedy, as defending the constitution was the whole point. Therefore, we cannot conclude from the results of your poll that people do not actually view Trump as a threat. Again, no China shop owner is going to throw a grenade into their store to stop a bull, but this does not mean that the bull is not viewed as a threat.

If I had to guess, I would say that Trump is definitely going to mess some important institutions up, but it won’t be anything as obviously egregious as capturing a third term. Instead, it will have to do with things like foreign policy, the DOJ, and domestic rights. These actions will be defended by Trump supporters, who will later become inflamed when the democrats follow Trump’s lead. This response of course will be defended by Democratic voters who earlier cried foul. Rather than destroyed in one swoop, the constitution thus gets weakened over time, with Trump doing more than his share.

Trump might be too senile to continue as president through one term. His vice president may have to take over. Better hope he doesn't pick Boebert or MTG. The problem, like Biden, is getting him to admit that he is too senile for the job.

Russia's quest for world domination does seem to hang in the balance on whether the idiots of America vote in Trump or not. Maybe Trump's diplomatic skills will start a war with Europe, and Trump will ask Putin to team up with the U.S. to defeat Europe in exchange for Russia controlling Europe afterwards. That's probably a best case scenario, however. Worst case is nuclear holocaust. :)

Well...two votes for an armed resistance in this thread, and now there has been an assassination attempt on the former POTUS. Not necessarily saying those are the same thing, but the narrative of Trump is an existential threat has the potential to mobilize people to extreme measures.
