I don't want to go in but I'd rather pay $1.99 for a good bag of chips than $4.99. So sue me.

I wasn’t speaking about the cost of groceries.

My wife brought berries home from Fresh Market and they were from the same farm as the berries I had bought at Aldi. The produce comes primarily from local/regional farms and is better quality than most would assume and for a fraction of the price.

No. You only have to pay if you don't return the cart where it belongs. It's not hard to get used to. But, we're all creatures of habits, and the older you get, the harder it is to break them. So don't shop at Aldi if you can't break your shopping habit.

Public stores are nice, but not only are they too big for my taste, I value saving money over "nice".

Never been to an Aldi's. Wife went once said I wouldn't like it. I took her word for it.

Have always hated WD. Drive right past one to Publix tho I'm losing a bit of my Publix love lately also. At least the stores are still clean.

Quite often, people who are ready to leave pass people walking in and just give them their no longer needed cart sometimes taking their quarter.

Not that anyone cares, but I now get Aldi delivered via Instacart.

That is funny. The companies are owned by German brothers. One runs a high end grocer(kaufhause maybe) the other Aldi. Trader Joe’s is the American wing of the upscale one.

My memory is that Aldi was one company but the two brothers split over alcohol sales.

I should look it up, tho

actually they split over cigarette sales. With each taking certain territories in Europe. One opened aldi stores in the US, the other bought Trader Joe’s

There was a Winn Dixie near my house in Lexington KY about 10 years ago. I treated it like a convenience store. There was almost nobody in there. The location eventually became a Kroger.

Update on last year's story. Aldi completed the purchase of Winn-Dixie in March and is starting to convert some of the W-Ds and Harvey's ...

The last six cars I bought… BMW, BMW, Porsche, Porsche, Mercedes, BMW. Also, my wife is German and my kids are all half German ancestry as a result.

I think you might be on to something :emoji_thinking:

Well there are no Aldi's around me but there are 6 Publix stores within about 10 minutes (7 if you count the one across from the Westshore Mall). There is 1 each of Winn Dixie, Sprouts, Fresh Market and Whole Foods along with 1 Trader Joes.
Maybe there are too many grocery stores.

Side note: Just got back from a trip to up / side state NY (Lake Ontario) and the grocery stores REQUIRE you to have reusable bags. If you forget them then you will just have to put your loose groceries in your trunk. The convenience stores give you a paper bag for your beef jerky and I thought to myself as I was leaving that I can feel the environment getting healthier already.

Good, I'm sure you felt better doing the right thing, too. I try to use reusable bags whenever possible. When I can't, I take the plastic bags to Publix and recycle them in the bins they maintain for that purpose. Paper bags can go out with my curbside recycling.

It was just a little thing you did in Lake Ontario, but anything helps.

My uncle that fought in WWII married a German woman too, so all seven of my cousins by them are half German...

Now how is that related to a foreign country owning too much of an important national security industry? Food, vitamins and drugs companies that are started right here in the U.S.A. should all be owned by Americans in the U.S.A.... not some foreign entity.
