This guy made bad a choice. He apparently tried an armed carjacking of a US Marshall stationed at Sotomayor’s house. Doesn’t seem politically motivated … just dumb. The Marshall shot him but he’s expected to live. Suspected carjacker shot outside home of Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor
Curious why you say it doesn’t seem politically motivated? Was it something in the article that makes you say this. I didn’t see any details suggesting either way.
Same person who joined the dissent with justice meyer , “I can find nothing in the Second Amendment’s text, history, or underlying rationale that could warrant characterizing it as ‘fundamental’ insofar as it seeks to protect the keeping and bearing of arms for private self-defense purposes.” Raise your hand if your wife has personal private armed security to fend off armed carjackers.
I guess it could be, but it just sounds like an attempted car jacking and seems like they would have mentioned it if the motive was political.
Reasonable take. Not everything everyone does is politically motivated Likely just a dumb-a** who made a bad choice.
Raise your hand if your wife has auto insurance and absolutely zero business trying to engage an armed assailant in a gun fight over a possession.
I think it is great that DC has a law that a person can not have a magazine with more than a 10 round capacity. Seems that gives the criminals an advantage if you are legal and use your gun for self defense. A real shocker the carjacker ignored that law and had a larger capacity magazine.
When did auto insurance start keeping people from being killed. People are shot many times by carjackers even when they don't resist. I know of a lot of women that can defend themself very well with a firearm and train often. If a person chooses to have a gun to protect themself they should be able to do so. If a person chooses not to own a gun that is fine also.
Auto insurance would cover the theft of the vehicle. I’m a firm believer that introducing another firearm in a situation where one is already being brandished is a sure fire way to get those guns firing. Seems like the stupidest thing you can do in that situation but to each their own. That’s certainly your right in this country.
I don't think he thought it was political either to say but he was just questioning why he thought it wasn't political or did the article claim that. With that said, your first thought wasn't that someone was potentially trying to target Justice Sotomayer?
There were 384 reported cases of adult stranger kidnappings in 2019. Meanwhile in 2019, there were approximately 274,000 carjackings reported in the United States according to data from the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS). If someone points a gun at you and doesn’t immediately shoot you the overwhelming odds are they are simply trying to steal something from you. Id rather my wife play those odds than try to kill a man who already has a gun trained on her (which could very easily get her killed in what is statistically almost certainly just a carjacking). But again, to each their own. That’s your right.
Given the climate most people’s first thought it would be some Right wing nut job. I’m guessing the name of the perp may have muted that initial response. But yeah I was looking for more details to back one idea or the other.
