Rid'n With Biden: Congress’ despondent Biden rebels see their revolt crumbling: “It’s over” (axios.com) Just before House Democrats' Tuesday morning "come-to-Jesus" meeting on President Biden's path forward, a smaller group of swing-district Democrats held what sources described as a despondent gathering with "actual tears." Why it matters: The bloc of battleground House Democrats is one of the last firm pockets of a rapidly disintegrating movement on Capitol Hill to get Biden off the ticket. Zoom out: Democrats' full caucus meeting was far less unanimous, with lawmakers both defending Biden and airing concerns about his ability to take on former President Trump, attendees told Axios. One House Democrat who was in both meetings said: "Most of our caucus is still with him ... meaning he'll stay in. Which sucks for our country. "Going in and out of the meeting, several House Democrats who have previously raised concerns about Biden said they are now with him: "Whether or not I have concerns is besides the point. He is going to be our nominee, and we all have to support him," said Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.). Zoom in: Biden's letter to congressional Democrats on Monday morning stating firmly he is staying in the race and telling them to "end" discussion of him withdrawing appears to have galvanized lawmakers. Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-Texas), one of a half-dozen House Democrats who have urged Biden to drop out, conceded to Axios: "He clearly did a preemptive effort to try to discourage any questions ... with his letter. "I think there is a pretty strong consensus we need to close ranks," said Rep. Jared Huffman (D-Calif.), who has publicly raised grave concerns about Biden's political strength. "When there's this kind of show of force, it's hard to imagine people are going to speak up against him," said one House Democrat. Said another: "They've outflanked us." LOL! Thanks to democrat infighting, Trump has the largest lead he has had in the polls. Trump? Stayed on the sideline and let the democrats implode as he should have. "According to CNN" is as big of a joke as I thought it would be. OP, thanks for the laughing good time in this thread.
In reality, he was already going to lose anyway before the debate happened. The issue I would have as a Dem now is the down ballot. But as others have said, they should have seen this coming and handled it sooner. It's too late to do anything with the shit show now.
The reason Dems are having the conversation is precisely because there isn’t a good way to just wave off “the President got on a national debate stage and didn’t seem to know who he was.” If there was, someone would have come up with it by now (the White House’s two attempts were “well he had a cold” and “well he flew to Europe two weeks ago,” both of which created more problems than solutions). Were it about more than just winning, the conversation Dems are having would be more focused on “do we really think that a guy who seems like he might be dead in four months is actually capable of serving in office for another four years,” not “this is going to hand the election to Trump and ruin his legacy!”
Not only is this hyperbole, it's revisionist. Dems have been concerned about Biden all along. Obviously those concerns are magnified during election season.
Exactly what I thought before the infighting. Wisconsin would have to write a new law as the state only provides for replacement in case of death. Ohio has refused to rewrite its law with a deadline before the dem convention. Biden is being nominated early so he can appear on the Ohio ballot. There was never time for all of the BS being discussed. Georgia and Nevada wouldn't have had a democratic presidential candidate as well. The democratic party knew about Biden and covered up allowing a non-primary season to come and go. The delegates belong to Joe Biden. He wants to stay in and no one can stop him except the Grim Reaper. The democratic party and its libs are going to get what they richly deserve in November, a spanking from the American people.
I've been hearing from right wingers since 2020 that Biden is just a figure head that the country is being run by a secret cabal or he would resign after elected and Harris would take over. They can't be wrong, right. If so, that secret cabal has done a good job in my book. Certainly better than the convicted felons team did.
It would be nice, but I don’t want blind loyalty with the people who work for me. I need their input, not their “yessing”. But, to your point, I don’t want them shivving me in the back, either.
No, but apparently someone pointed out to Nadler that Mr. Craps-his-pants may not be one to complain about Joe’s diminished capacity.
The great part is you know Dems are well aware of the obvious risk that he will do something even more embarrassing between now and November than he did at the debate. So the next meltdown will be 5 times as good as this one. Can I get some extra butter on that popcorn, ma’am?
Better get a nap. If he's not gonna do the right thing and get the hell off the ballot, it's gonna be a long four months.
He will be on the ballot. People are dragging this out and getting their hopes up only to be disappointed.
Like I said, he’s the guy unless he craps himself in public. However you got here, this is where you are. If the dems have any hope of winning the infighting has to stop.
