Getting a tattoo that your child designed is seriously cool.

If I read his PM correctly, this is the one @igabradley was talking about:

I don’t have any tattoos and I don’t think you guys are idiots either. I’ve considered it for many years and never done it but if I did it, I would be able to put on a T-shirt and shorts and no one would see it like it or not, it can be detrimental to one’s career choice. my kid is a marine and has other friends who cannot get into the Marines because of their tattoos. That’s only one small limitation.

Ironic that my son got his tattoos while he was active duty in the Marines. Does it have to do with what the tattoos are, where they are, or whether you are enlisted or an officer?

For what it's worth, I read that tattoo ink leads to a higher risk of leukemia. My father-in-law had tats and died from it.

I’m sorry to hear of your FIL’s passing. My grandfather died of the same and had no tattoos. Correlation and causation are frequently confused in small scale studies. The percentage diagnosed world wide with leukemia is .057%. According to that unverified study, it would increase to .068% if everyone on the planet had a tattoo. It’s just as likely that this has to do with some questionable parlors using unsafe dyes. Also, it is statistically insignificant.

There are exceptions to every rule, so thank you for withholding judgement. Few possess such skills, my mother included.

My career doesn’t care about tattoos as the hiring process is blind. It’s based on resumes, writing samples, and audio interviews. With that said, my ink cannot be seen away from a pool or beach. I got the art for me, not for others.

Thanks Swamp. The fact that my daughter designed the tattoo made it really difficult for my mom to hate on it publicly. :D It also made it that much more endearing for my wife as it represents the children.

My next tattoo. In the roots is the year I became a dad. It’s a low quality image due to file size restrictions.

I got the Celtic cross to celebrate getting married and adopting my wife’s five-year-old triplets. Each part of the cross has one of the kids First initial in my wife is in the center. It’s always better when your tattoos have a special meaning to you.

Cool sleeve man. Avoiding rash and impulsive tattoo sessions is the way to go. I know some people that just enjoy the pain and others that everything carries a meaning. I met a woman once that was in her 70’s who started in her 60’s. Her husband had died ten years earlier and to honor him, she got a biblically influenced tattoo for each of the 26 years they were married. She had never had any ink done before creating the series of tattoos. You and I seem to be on the same page, make them mean something important and you’ll love them for all of eternity.

he passed over 20 years ago, no worries. He was also a Marine and was a tunnel rat in Viet Nam, no telling what he was exposed to over there.

It took exceptional bravery to be a tunnel rat in that war. Your family has our gratitude for his service.
