Damn, that's a mind bender of a conundrum. If he was unfit, and knew it, he would drop out....but if he was fit enough to know he was unfit, he wouldnt be unfit, and then wouldnt need to drop out?

Better hope the infighting doesn’t get ugly in the party over this. They clearly want him out or they wouldn’t be convening a meeting like this and letting the media know about it. I think he has to go or else it will be a bad election cycle for Dems up and down.

Biden may win he may lose, but Trump went through the same thing in 2016 and he won. In a week it will be largely forgotten unless polls crater, which they haven’t to this point. His win odds are just about unchanged on 538.

Just one more debate, one more feature interview, one more summit. The fat lady has been singin a while now. Joe needs to listen.

don’t underestimate his hubris. Plus, unfortunately imo his idea of admitting failure and perceived
humiliation of dropping out is unacceptable for him compared to “losing honorably”. He basically said that in the interview.

No, I’m sorry, but this isn’t the same thing Trump went through in 2016. That may be the strangest take I’ve ever seen here and that’s saying something.

Trump absolutely faced infighting to the point of a floor vote at the convention, which was my point.
GOP infighting on display in rare uproar over adoption of convention rules

    https://www.politico.com/story/2016...ave-support-needed-to-force-rules-vote-225716

Everyone wondered whether a fractured Republican Party could win, and they did. If polls stay close this will pass just like that did.

Yeah, if he doesn't step aside, I'm going to be pretty disappointed. It was a close race till that debate. Now it is looking like a lost cause with Biden. Hopefully he will listen to the advice and step aside.

I truly believe "fresh blood" on the Dem (or Pub) side would glide to an easy win.

People are fed up with both candidates and would relish an alternative.

I don’t think it will ever be forgotten before the election. His degraded performance was indelible.

By forgotten, I mean the calls to yank him will largely subside if he stays relatively coherent like has since. No one forgot about Trump’s lunacy, but people likely forgot that floor fight even happened. Which was my point, all will go quite quickly if the polls don’t tank, which they haven’t to now. Like I said, Warner’s effort already flamed out, this will too. Then what? Anything after that is counterproductive, they will all get in line, or just stay quiet.

I just think people will vividly remember his performance, and there will be loud question makes about his capacity to lead not just in November 2024, but for another 4 years. I don’t think he can ever recover the confidence of the people after that disaster.

I don’t think I’m in the minority by stating that my vote will be against Trump, and only against Trump, with absolutely zero confidence in Biden or the party he represents that allowed him to run again.

And I think the bigger problem for the Democrats is that I believe many won’t bother voting at all. And that too will have disastrous implications for the down-ballot, much needed support. Biden’s insolence is going to be crushing.

Any more than people vividly remembered Trump trashing POWs, making calls to lock up his political enemies, being accused of 17 sexual assaults or whatever it was, the grab them by the P comment, among a hundred other things?
Maybe Biden gets blown out, and if so we can revisit this and you can say you were right. But the overwhelming majority of people are like you (and me), they are voting hard against something. Who has their preferred letter next to their name doesn’t matter, as long as it says the right one. jmo.
