How far up the will the federal lawsuits go? If Alaska can prove that they were promised the ability to manage their own resources, as part of the deal for statehood, so they and use the profits from such resources like oil and gas to be used for and by their local population then it seems like a easy case... That's if there is actual written proof. (Anchorage, AK) – Tuesday the State of Alaska filed suit in the United States Court of Federal Claims seeking to recover lost revenues from nine canceled federal oil and gas leases covering lands on the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge’s Coastal Plain. This suit continues the State’s efforts to hold the federal government accountable for the costs of its environmental policies, especially when those decisions lead to severe economic impacts to the State and its citizens. As a condition of joining the Union, Alaska was promised the ability to build its economy through resource development. This lawsuit adds to the growing list of challenges to federal actions affecting Alaskans, most notably the State has filed suits in federal district court and the Court of Federal Claims challenging the EPA’s unlawful decision to put off limits 300 square miles of State lands to mineral development and is asking for $700 billion in compensation. screw Alaska. They are like the Western welfare rancher in the form of a state. Their hand is always out, but once they get the check & BIG GOV turns to leave they kick him in the ass. Modern "Conservatism" #2 Most Socialist State - Alaska Total State Expenditures (FY 2013): $12.1 Billion Gross Domestic Product (2013): $51.5 Billion Expenditures as Proportion of GDP: 23.6% https://www.thestreet.com/markets/the-10-most-socialist-states-in-america-12964955
1. It’s not Alaska’s land. It belongs to all of us. 2. They are pigs. Biden already approved elsewhere in Alaska the Willow oil project in the petroleum reserve, a massive project by ConocoPhillips Alaska that could produce up to 180,000 barrels of oil a day on Alaska’s petroleum-rich North Slope. Protections are proposed for more than 20,000 square miles (51,800 square kilometers) of land in the reserve in the western Arctic.
Then we in Florida should be able to tell California what to do in their state. There should also be STANDING such a lawsuit as well. Maybe YOU tell the SCOTUS how your logic works. In states like California they control their affairs, so Alaska should have that right too. Besides that with the Chevron deference gone all non-legislative laws/rules should be revisited.
Will not be surprised when Putin's puppet president just gives Alaska back to Russia as a sign of fealty and to repay the massive debts his phony empire still owes to the Russian government.
Over 60% of the land within Alaska’s borders is Federal land. One thing that annoys me to no end is state’s rights people saying the states want their land back. This land was never the states’ land to begin with so there’s nothing to give back.
There’s a lot of things Trump is guilty and capable of but I don’t see him ever trying that. Remember, this is the guy who brazenly thought he could simply buy Greenland like it was on OfferUp.
WRONG! The federal government does have rights and responsibilities, and these sometimes supercede the rights of the states. Didn't you ever take a Civics class? The only way that a state can make up their own rules on something is AFTER they have met the federal government's requirements. So when California makes stricter environmental laws (for example), these laws are STILL in compliance with federal laws, which merely set minimum standards.
Lol... sure, they must be above the law to think that leases don't mean anything if the government engages in them.
