Wow, you really were ready for a change. It will be interesting to see what kind of leader Starmer will be. I've read of some concerns.

Where to start? When you are going to insult someone by suggesting something is a "concept above your (their) ability to grasp," get the damn concept straight. If you are going to get all "twisted", to borrow @FutureGatorMom 's term, figure out what you want to be twisted about. Are you upset with people who are provided with meals when staying somewhere in return for the provision of services or money, boarders, or issues with geographical boundaries, borders?

Christian values have NOTHING to do with Roe v. Wade or abortion rights. Most mainstream Protestant faiths favor abortion rights. Why is that? Because there is no clear and unambiguous prohibition against abortion in the Bible allowing individual faiths to take the position they feel to be appropriate on the issue.

In terms of you feigning innocence over name calling, that's rich. You have repeatedly referred to Democrats (yes, you lump all of us together) as both communists and socialists (I know that sounds beyond stupid when you read that, but you do do it,) groomers and pedophiles. It's nonstop with you, but thankfully, people stopped taking you seriously on this stuff eons ago.

Your interpretation of the 2A is historically flawed and suggesting there is some divine right in America to own a firearm is just...weird and YouTube cringeworthy MAGA supporter ready.

Not peculiar at all to anybody with even the slightest knowledge of British politics. Also, it isn't because of a parliamentary system.

Britain has a first past the post system based on constituencies. No different than the US in electing Representatives. What is different is that Northern Ireland is in Britain and has a separate party system. Sinn Fein and DUP are Northern Irish parties that don't even run candidates outside of Northern Ireland. But they are two of the dominant parties within Northern Ireland (along with SDLP, who won 2 seats). So those parties win constituencies in Northern Ireland and don't even run somebody to get votes in other parts of the country.

It is funny to watch people who clearly know nothing about Britain opine on it.

Settling old scores, I see. I’ll be governing your posts when Trump is elected with millions fewer votes than Biden or Biden’s replacement.

Then how is a moment of silence interfering with other people... not wanting religion?

Yeah, the electoral college is quite a bit different than a legislative election. In the electoral college, the person with fewer votes can win. No individual with fewer votes won in Britain. You don't vote for a party but rather a candidate in each constituency. BTW, I understand how the electoral college works, I simply don't agree with it as a system.

And no, just commenting that there is another topic on which you apparently feel comfortable commenting without even a basic understanding of the situation based on your post.

Reform wins 4 seats with 15% of the vote.

Greens win 4 seats with 1% of the vote.

Just to correct your numbers, Reform got about 8.5% of the vote and 5 seats (4.14m), not 15%. That would have been Nigel Farage's fantasy. And while the polled quite well nationwide, they polled way under what his projection of 6.5m votes was.
Greens got 3 seats with about 3.8% of the vote.
You chose the wrong party to make your point though - the Liberal Democrats got 71 seats with 7.2% of the vote. There's the issue.

However, I get your point. First past the post is the system which has worked in the UK for a long, long time. Without it, a majority for anything would be very challenging. But it's the same platform for everyone.

Do I like it? Not especially. We had a referendum about 15 years ago on proportional representation and the public voted overwhelmingly against it (67%). I voted for changing it because I think its fairer but it comes with its own issues too.
That said, FPTP works. Get the most votes in your ward and you head to Westminster.
The Lib Dems were tremendous in targeting seats they knew they could win under this system and fair play to them. Nothing wrong with being smart with the tools at your disposal.
Plus you have to remember, a lot of people just wanted the Tories out - they may have voted for whichever party gave them the best chance of achieving that, such as the LDs.

The big 2 parties won't ever push away from FPTP. Nor will Britain. It's only ever the parties who come in in 3rd/4th place who complain because its in their best interests.

Funny aside - Nigel Farage called the EU undemocratic using a similar system to the one he's now crying for. The hypocrisy is delicious.

It's interesting to watch the British Conservatives get pulverized for their idiotic nationalism and isolationism best exemplified by Brexit....

.......even as we watch France and America about to repeat the same mistake that England (and America) made 8 years ago.

It's not really a positive commentary on humanity.

Turning over a new leaf, rick? Seems that labeling people/groups with differing political views is not exclusive to those you disagree with.

And since the system makes that wanker Nigel Farage cry, I now have to support it. :emoji_joy:

The Dems are turning into communists... that IS a legitimate political platform... no shade intended other than pointing out what others have not pointed out.

It's not like I'm calling the communists/Dems Hitler like several political posters on "X" are calling Trump. The Dems/communists now want the Federal Government control the entire energy grid... just like the medical industry. Do you think the Constitutional Republicans want that kind of government control? You can call it socialized control but it's communism for the rest of us.

To see at something a use a different description to describe it does not necessarily bad. There are no Dems in the Democrat Party... they left the Dems for a more totalitarian Political Party.

    I'm proud to be British.

I am not proud of our colonial past, nor our rather dismal attitude towards issues like homelessness and migration at times.

I will never take for granted it could be a lot, lot worse.
