You need to remember that they don’t have the same access to information that you do. Putin has done a lot, much of which is covered in this thread, to keep the pain of the war away from Moscow and St. Petersburg, the main centers of population and the historical sources of popular uprising in Russia. Putin is not the strategic genius we all thought he was before 2022, but he does know his Russian history.
Some people do the right thing because it's the right thing to do...you know, helping an innocent country who was invaded, its cities leveled, civilians slaughtered, women raped and children kidnapped. Others approach it from a "what's in it for me?" angle. We all get it and no one is particularly surprised.
