My fingers are crossed . . . all this recent good to great publicity coming out about Condon and his improved game, bigger role in 2024-25, etc. Edit: Thanks to @Gatorborn and @FranceGator for helping with the correct link. I don't know why my computer is suddenly messing up SI article links.
If (when) he gets a little stronger, he's a walking double-double. Having Chinyelu alongside will only make him better, too. Guys will be having to try and keep Chins away from the paint, freeing up the Condo Association.
While I did marvel at Condon's footwork in the low post as a freshman and was reminded of McHale I wasn't going to go that far. Being 50% of McHale would be awesome.
Having watched McHale and the Celtics a bunch back in the day, I can't say that Condon reminds me of him. McHale was listed at 6'-11" but I swear his knuckles scraped the floor when he walked. Plus he had high, wide shoulders, which adds inches to the wingspan. And he had great, great footwork and this odd head-fake that created gimme putts for him. Larry Bird said that right after the Celtics signed this scrawny new kid from Minnesota, they were scrimmaging and the Bird got in the lane and got his shot up for an easy bucket. But this hand appeared out of nowhere and kept going up and up and up and swatted his shot away. He knew what the Celts had right then. 7' Robert Parrish at center, 6'-11" McHale at power forward, 6'-9" Larry Bird at small forward...oh my. Like the Lurker said, if Condon is 50% of McHale, we have a great one. Shoulder shape matters a lot. Condo doesn't have the high, wide shoulders of a McHale, but then not many do. At the opposite end of the spectrum, remember Danny Ferry, from Duke? All-American with great skills, but he had the arms of a T-Rex and the shoulders of a snake.
There is a very good chance that Condon will be so improved that this is his last year as a collegiate-professional and he turns professional-professional at the end of this season. He is what the NBA wants.
while I’d hate to see him go, if he does get to that next level, it probably means a very special year for the team. I can’t wait for the season to start!
Condon is a future nba hall of famer, destined to be top 3 pick in nba draft, and 7x nba all star (and quoting from his nba page “generally regarded as one of the greatest power forwards of all time”) and College two time first team all conference? I now expect Florida to go undefeated.
Hopefully coach Golden is good at identifying "rat poison" like this that can screw up a teenager's head and make them try and do more than they should.
