Russia is losing 1,000 soldiers a day in Ukraine, according to the New York Times. Apparently, Russia's "meat grinder" attacks are responsible for the high casualty rates. The attacks are even less successful now than they were when Wagner Group was in charge of them.

I’ve seen some drone footage recently on the subreddit combat footage that is pretty chilling. They have completely changed warfare.

• Surveillance drones make it damn near impossible to hide and they coordinate well with FPV drones
• FPV drones are scary. I saw a Russian unit systematically taken out by a series of FPV drones with explosives while a surveillance drone recorded the whole affair.
• In one case Russian soldiers were unsuccessfully throwing stones at an FPV drone while running around building ruins.

The Biden administration is moving toward lifting a de facto ban on American military contractors deploying to Ukraine, four US officials familiar with the matter told CNN, to help the country’s military maintain and repair US-provided weapons systems.

The change would mark another significant shift in the Biden administration’s Ukraine policy, as the US looks for ways to give Ukraine’s military an upper hand against Russia.

I don’t expect some of you to acknowledge that you’re losing, let alone how badly you’re losing …

 

Ehh... no. I am not the only person to observe that too much of NATO's strategy and Ukraine's strategy has been talked about openly. In fact, I wager a majority of military personnel would agree with me that oversharing has occurred egregiously as it relates to efforts in Ukraine.

 

Trump is playing it right, though. It's a comprehensive strategy. Not only does he get NATO to pony up, but he simultaneously puts pressure on Russia's key allies in Iran and China. Day #1 Iran is getting hit with sanctions that will make Russia's look pedestrian. And then Trump likely increases tariffs in a big way with China.

So not only is Trump going to up the ante on the NATO side, he's going to hurt Russia by hurting their partners in a big way. Now, @uftaipan that may be enough to get the Kremlin to re-think. They need both countries to keep the game going.

There is always the off chance that Russia, China and Iran have already decided a war is coming and Trump's NATO ask will escalate things. But if you want deterrence, have the NATO partners triple down on their contributions. It's an easier strategy for me to accept than simply pouring money into a money pit.

 

That won’t end the war before he takes office so clearly that’s not the plan because he said in plain English the war would be over before his first day…

 

This, to me, if it happens is a significant change in US involvement. The administration is saying it will only be a few dozen contractors and not the private armies we saw in Iraq et .al. It may start out that way but…. I know there are already a few American volunteers who have found their way there and are fighting for Ukraine. Private armies of US citizens fighting Russians (paid from US aid?) possibly face to face as the result of a shift in policy represents something more. Im not necessarily against it but if it happens i think it represents a point in the war we will all remember.

 

You keep boasting of Trump’s comprehensive strategies throughout the Boards, but I’ve never seen or read a single comprehensive thought, much less strategy, from Trump. He speaks in sound-bites. Where is the Trump comprehensive strategy written so I can read it for myself?

 

Trump says lots of things. It’s easy to do when one is not confined by the nuisance of such banal barriers, like truth.

Trump is as impotent as is Biden vs. Russia, China and Iran. It is a brutal awakening for an aging and brittle empire arguing over golf scores.

 

anything the us can do to free up men for the front is a boost for Ukraine. This means more training, faster repair times, and in time, maybe even some fighting if the mercs see money to be made.
