As someone who was raised a Hindu, it doesn’t.

A specific God but not a specific religion. 3 very differing religions use them to an extend and their basic core is found in others.

If it said except Jesus as your Lord and Savior i would agree, but the 20c do not say that.

Also, I am not dying on a hill. I have said that Louisiana and now Oklahoma are not doing the right thing.

My position isn't a legal one, but more a philosophical one. Legally, I think its a bad move by these states. I just feel the 10c argument from the opposition is made in ignorance of which specific religion it allegedly endorses. That is factually undebatable.

I said it has similar ones.

These codes exist all though their teachings.

    Not stealing.
    Faithfulness to a partner.
    Treatment of others.
    Honesty.
    Etc.
    Ethics of Hinduism

Sone of these are almost verbatim to the 10 commandments in Hebrew scripture.

    Why are people arguing this?

That is not to say I find the belief systems compatible. I do not. But for the sake of this conversation the shared teachings are relevant.

But the not shared ones aren't?

Simple question: is a Hindu in violation of the ten commandments simply by practicing their religion? Answer: Yep. As such, you are promoting somebody not being in that religion by posting the ten commandments.

No worries, the scotus will allow it. They'll call it free speech or whatever reasoning they choose. The writing is on the wall.

Religions (and non religions for that matter) do have pretty similar basic ethics based on reciprocity, aka the "golden rule." I'm not sure they share that these things are divinely revealed to humanity by a monotheistic God in tablet form.

    Show me where Hinduism says
“You shall not have other gods besides me” or “you shall not make idols”.

The basic principle of Hinduism is to follow a path of duty and righteousness. It allows people to pray as they wish and to whatever they want (elements of nature). That is why you don’t have proselytization or religious wars (it has a bunch of other problems) in Hinduism. In fact, a lot of scholars consider atheism to be a form of Hinduism as you don’t need to worship anyone as long as you follow the moral path. Some also consider newer Gods/Prophets like Buddha, Jesus to be avatars of Vishnu. Have fun with that.

you’re actually dying on the hill that 10C isn’t considered endorsement of Christianity in public schools? Of course it is.

Its really funny that he basically wants to make the 10 Commandments into a feel good. hippy dippy PC multicultural thing. If its sincere, its very ironic and if its insincere, then its basically just trojan horsing Christianity like everyone with a brain is already wise to.

I find it interesting that in this discussion on teaching religion in schools, you draw on an expression that derives from the Old Testament book of Daniel. :D

Sure, but there should be concern about admins dictating curriculum to all classrooms w/in the state. It's not educationally sound practice.

I thought the coincidence in your post was humorous and so I pointed it out. And you gotta come back with something snarky like this.

Where have I ever stated that I am in favor of theocracy?

I said it had similar. I listed the specifics. I never said it had an identical 10. Why are people ignoring what I actually said?

Not my point. In fact I said if that is the goal of the law writers than it is wrong according to 1A.

They themselves seem to ignore what Jesus commanded.
