Trump performed better than I expected given the completely incoherent rambling he had done at his rally’s recently, I fully expected more of the same last night, but to his credit, he didn’t. That said, talking fast and confidently can help make up for the fact that he doesn’t know what he’s talking about on anything and he just lies blatantly as he goes along. Gatorjo is correct in his assessment.

Both sides lie - it's simply which lies you choose to believe.
    Men are women.
    Russia, Russia, Russia
    Inflation was 9% w/ Trump
    Mostly peaceful protests
Cheap fake videos of Biden (wow, that blew up last night)
"I'm the only President this decade who didn't have any military die on my watch."

It's obvious no one on this board is changing their vote. It will be interesting to see what the Democrat Party does with Biden.

Trump knew the debate format favored the sound bite moment. 2 minutes to answer I meant to respond… there wasn’t any chance to actually give thoughtful answers ( not saying would have if there had been time.. just saying there wasn’t a chance for that). Trumps sound bite/tiktok answers will play much better over the next few months than Joe Biden’s mumbling stumbling sleepy look.
And let’s not act like Biden made great coherent points… abortion softball (should have been) Biden turns into a referendum on his immigration policy. He claimed he beat Medicare? Im with Tilly. I will not vote for Trump.. he’s scum.
To be fair I am on record that all national politicians are scum. You don’t get to this level of politics without deep diving in the sewer)… but wow Trump makes my skin crawl)
But I cannot in good conscience vote for Joe. He’s mentally incapable of leading story time for the Girl Scouts much less the country.
And Biden spent the last week at camp David prepping for this debate. This was him prepared, ready to go.

I didn’t watch either but I admit that I’m concerned about Biden. I’d likely stay home if he were running against literally anyone else.

It wasn’t that long ago (Obama admin) that prominent liberal posters on this board ( probably no longer here or under different names) adamantly claimed lying was ok because it was just part of the campaign and everyone did it. It was expected and should be overlooked… of course that was then when their candidate was getting called out for it.. not now.

Biden is the consummate politician. He has spent his life making a fortune at the public trough. Trump, by contrast, has little political finesse or instincts. Does that make either of them bad presidential material ? unfortunately, not in my opinion.
The debate showed one thing very clearly, Joe Biden should not be leader of this country. His health is in serious decline.
The fact that neither of them answered the moderator’s questions directly is nothing new to our presidential debates.
    Just my thoughts.

Didn't watch it, but glancing at the news stories, most seem to say the same: Biden was old, slow, uninspired and uninspiring. Trump was aggressive but full of falsehoods and distractions.

Joe is in serious decline. It was evident to everyone and made a mockery of all the cheap fake talking points being spread. He is as bad as advertised from the conservatives. But Teumpnos only 3 years younger. What shape will he be in after another four years?
Is this seriously the best we can do? At this point would any of the normal cheerleaders for either side be willing to consider a candidate from the opposing party if it is sent Trump orr Biden? If Rubio was running? Buttigoeg? Haley? Newsome? JFK? Manchin?
At this point are any willing to concede they would switch sides if almost any consulate other than Trump or Biding was running given how pathetic this choice is?

To be fair Joe also had his share of falsehoods. Not nearly like Trump but again we couldn’t understand a third of what Biden was trying to say…

This one struck me because it's the kind of thing Trump's supporters would believe, that million of immigrants are being placed on Social Security.

But of course. That’s all Trump does is lie about literally everything. Biden is old, slow, and not fit for office in his current state. However, Trump is only 3 years younger, has had his share of cognitive gaffes lately, and is a convicted felon surrounded by a bunch of other convicted felons. Part of being president is surrounding yourself by the right support system, and I trust Biden’s support system way more than Trump’s given the company he keeps. Biden could be on his death bed and I’d still vote for him over a convicted felon, serial liar, and grifter. Whatever happened to our morals as a country?

It’s the same kind of falsehoods they always tell. Couple examples below:

Trump with his made up story about how everyone in the country wanted Roe overturned and many Democratic governors were saying you can kill babies after they are born. Presumably everyone watching knows none of that is true, but it won’t stop Trump from just saying it.

Biden with his wildly inaccurate statistical claims like no American troops have been killed under him, or that the unemployment rate when he took office was either 15 or 50 percent (I couldn’t understand which he was trying to say, but neither one is even close to right). I’m not sure why his aides try to load him up with stats for debates and speeches - the next time he gets one out correctly will be the first time.

I find it funny how all the Biden defenders point out that Trump is a liar. Biden has been telling lies and making up stories all his life. It was like watching a corpse talk when he was on tv last night.

Your criminal looked like the brainless criminal that he is. My candidate simply looked way too old...well, we saw how he looked.

As far as you enjoying " the L", as you mention: wr can only assume that you mean you'll enjoy the L of voting for a twice-impeached, adulterous, rapist, convicted felon who not only solely was elected due to assistance from Russia, but who enacted a criminal conspiracy to overturn an election.

It's hard to imagine being an American and being willing to cast a vote for such a human cesspool of criminality and immorality. But at least you acknowledge that voting for a traitor is taking "the L." So congrats, I guess.

Basically it went exactly as expected to anyone who has been paying attention. I don't see how that debate could change anyone's mind unless that person has been in a coma for the past 8 years. They should cancel future debates and have them play golf, assuming Biden doesn't get replaced. If the democrats end up nominating someone else then everything changes. Biden may be the only politician in this country that can't beat Trump in a debate.

Every politician lies, but there’s lying and then there’s Trump, who lied far and away more times than any president in history during his time in office and it’s not even really close. Add on to the fact that he’s a convicted felon, a rapist, and left office with less jobs than when we he entered office and it’s a no brainer that you shouldn’t be voting for him. I would say I hope he does get elected so when the economy gets worse and his idiotic tariff idea backfires on everyone, we can say we told you so, but I’m not a sadist and know another Trump presidency would be an unmitigated disaster for everyone, so I won’t do that.

Negative stories and innuendos about Trump are shouted from the rooftop by many sources. Despite the fact they later prove to be untrue.

Negative stories about Joe Biden are squelched by the government and by many social media outlets and legacy media, despite the fact they turn out to be true. Someone is working very hard to make sure only one side of the story is told.

if DeSantis was the nominee, we would experience the same thing. This is not about how bad Trump is. This is purely about power.

I don't want to drag you down a rabbit hole, off on a tangent....you can pick the metaphor. But at least one of the things you mentioned as a "lie" is not.

I just posted on a different thread the report from the REPUBLICAN-LED Senate intelligence committee who found the Trump campaign colliuded with Russia on the 2016 election.

Now whether a US citizen is willing to tolerate that is one thing...

But you personally are an intelligent and informed individual, correct? So shouldn't you be accurate about stating what is the truth or a lie?

Truest headline I’ve seen is, Biden stumbles Trump lies.

    That about sums it up.

Biden never should have stuck to one term. And Trump, well he is who he is.

    My take:
trump was trump as we know him - a bombastic firehouse of falsehoods and BS. The same as always. Static.

Biden was different than before and the difference was for the worse. Diminished and enfeebled, he did not seem up to the job.
