Not sure what rock a lot of people have been living under the last year or two but not sure how Biden’s performance tonight can be a surprise to anyone. It was pretty clear that putting Biden in a non-scripted debate setting would not work out real well but tonight was even worse than most anyone could have expected.
I remember it well. Nixon looked like he needed a shave. You might say it was a beauty contest and JFK won handily. (As I recall, JFK also used notes, which were not allowed.)
This was all a setup. DNC agreed to the early debate to give themselves justification for pushing him out, with plenty of time to install a new candidate.
Hardest job in the world isn’t the President it is the editor at the Daily Show trying to get the show under an hour with all the material from tonight.
Saw a take on Reddit that said Trump performed better than expected because, when your opponent can’t finish a sentence, you don’t really have to debate - it’s essentially just a rally (which he is very experienced at) where you have to pause every two minutes to let some old guy mumble for 45 seconds.
It didn’t take tonight to make me and many others realize that we are screwed. That time came months ago when it became clear that it was going to be Biden against Trump once again. But again, we are screwed and not sure where the heck we go from here.
Joe played the “180 librarians said Trump is the nastiest man in the world” card three too many times.
Kamala Harris was not the right person to have as the first Democratic spinner on CNN. I’m not sure how you successfully spin that, but don’t you let someone like Newsom (who is more popular, better with the media, and not as closely tied to Biden) take the first shot at trying? Particularly when Kamala is even less popular than Joe, the Trump campaign is going to be hammering “you’re not really voting for Joe, you’re voting for her,” and the best she can do is sigh over Anderson Cooper and say “trust me, he’s absolutely amazing all the times you can’t see him, this trainwreck in the first chance anyone has gotten to see him unscripted in years was just a slow start that you should pay no attention to.”
It has to be a surprise to a lot of the dems on this board, in the Biden administration and on TV who have told us repeatedly over the last couple of years that Joe is as sharp as ever and is showing no signs of decline....or maybe they have all been lying to the American people the whole time because they value power more than a man's mental health and the safety and security of the country.
I thought the best line in the debate was when Trump said, "I don't know what he just said and I don't think he does either."
I don't think she wanted to acknowledge them and was just trying to put on a good face, whether right or wrong.
She owed Biden. Newsome doesn’t? She did all she could. Dodged the questions, say it was an off night, talk about his record. What else you gonna do?
