I just have not been impressed by Suni. Even though she won the all-around in 2021, she has not shown anything since then. We went to the gymnastics meet in Auburn, and she fell on the bars and did not do much else. I will stand corrected if my opinion is wrong,
I feel for Skye. She has been training her whole life for this moment only to have it go down the drain with an injury. This on top of deferring UF for a year. The story: Team USA Suffers Crushing Injury Weeks Before Summer Olympics (msn.com) I can't speculate on the nature of the injury, but I do hope it isn't something that will keep her out of the 2025 season with UF. I've been looking forward to Skye and Sloane performing together for one season.
Dr. Sam doesn't have Skye's injury yet, but she does have a photo featuring 2 new Florida Gators: Dr. Sam, PhD on X: "New Gators Selena Harris and Lily Bruce are on campus https://t.co/mvtt3TXhXS" / X (twitter.com) We're waiting on now injured Skye Blakely and Taylor Clark. Still haven't seen any news on Victoria Nguyen and her 5th year if she wants it.
Achilles. After watching Elli and Halley, I cannot imagine her being ready for the season. Which means she would not get to compete with Sloan.
Just a guess, it's a type 4 tear which will take 9 months minimum to heal after surgery. Skye will be watching from the sideline in the 2025 season. There is no way CJR will risk bringing her back early and risking her UF career. At least we get Riley McCusker back off injury and it was fortunate that we picked up Selena Harris.
Dang, I'm not a doctor, but do know a thing or two about Achilles tears being graded type 1 through type 4 with the higher numbers escalating in damage and length of recovery time. I'll look up rupture to see if it is a separate category of its own with its own requirements for healing and time frame.
Bad news, a rupture is a tear so we are down to how severe and how long the recovery after surgery. Again, just guessing, based on she was on floor at the time of the injury, higher grade injury is likely as she landed hard and short on a landing. That would make it a minimum of 9 months for full recovery with up to 12 months possible. It's a tough break for Skye as a redshirt 2025 season is likely.
@ETGator1 what was the name of the young lady that competed with us in the national championship meet? She was very good
It is interesting and frightening, but Halley Taylor's mom said the Achilles tears/ruptures as you propel on a jump. That means you know it has happened as you jump and still have to land on it. Those who return and compete after such a catastrophic injury deserve our praise.
