Cannot believe this has a public prayer of passing constitutional review but its how they’re rolling in OK. He must be running for office or have unrequited political ambitions to propose this unconstitutional lunacy.

OK Schools Chief made the following announcement today: “Every teacher, every classroom in the state, will have a Bible in the classroom and will be teaching from the Bible in the classroom.”

The white christian nationalist was elected in 2022 with the goal of transforming the public school system into a fundamentalist christian laboratory. Under his new policy, students and teachers of other faiths will not have to option of opting out or refusing this requirement. Walters made it clear today that all students will receive christian indoctrination:

It may pass review under the new understanding of Free Exercise, i.e. the right to compel others. Time to get in line

Good luck. I guarantee you they are better armed and more prone to use force, as their faith commands to address heretics that resist their truth.

The Bible is a book that is adhered to and revered by a great, great many faiths. Even some faiths that have numerous other primary scriptures draw lessons from the Bible. And some faiths, which share no noticeable connections with the Bible whatsoever, are clearly, at times, promoting a message similar to what can be found in certain parts of the Bible.

It is because of these cross-cutting and universal themes that the Bible clearly does not intend to promote any SINGLE religion.

So I'm perfectly OK with this. Even if it's not what I would have chosen.

Strikes me as a much more blatant violation of the separation of church and state mandated by the First Amendment than even the Louisiana law requiring display of the Ten Commandments.

I personally wouldn't have any problem teaching the Bible from an academic perspective. The OK mandate sounds much more like requiring religious indoctrination. There is a difference.

That would require teachers have a background, training or degree in comparative religions or historical perspective of the Bible and its origins. Very few would qualify. To your point some/many teachers will welcome the opportunity for religious indoctrination on the public’s dime.

Are they shooting themselves, or just honoring their oath to shoot people who violate the constitution

It seems the Christofascists have determined that "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;" was actually to be understood as "Congress shall make a law respecting an establishment of our chosen religion, or allowing the free exercise thereof;" Give them a few more corrupt Federalists on the Supreme Court and they'll make those corrections right away.

We are dealing with people who think a kid becomes gay if they see a rainbow flag, I'm pretty sure these idiots think if you just waive a Bible in the general direction of a kid they become an evangelical Christian
