In some situations insecure or suppressed doubts in orthodox beliefs has been found to be the reason for a faith that is brittle, rigid, and intolerant. Insecurity discourages questioning orthodoxy or tolerance for alternative views. I don't know if this applies to Q, but I have known people who exhibit this attitude.
Hell no. I would. however, support your right and the right of your family not to be forced to have an abortion. At some point you will learn where your business of imposing your beliefs on others ends. Hopefully, that will be in November. Vote YES on 4!
What's wrong with an "elective" abortion such that I should support the government taking away women's control over their body?
Forcing rape / incest victims to carry a fetus is CRUEL AND INHUMANE. Full stop. Rape and incest are not accidents. They are deliberate crimes of violence, power and control against another person. When states exert reproductive power and control over these victims, they are reinforcing the original crime. Talk about barbaric ...
Texas disagrees. This was a quick search. Did not see something with 2023 numbers but… Number of abortions in Texas dropped 99.5% in the months after Roe v. Wade was overturned | KXAN Austin
? Did you read the law and the decision? The doctor did not need a court order. They tried to make an issue that was not there. Surly it was their agenda.
Because a doctor decided to make an issue that was not there. Surly part of their agenda. But they did not need a court order if the mothers life was in jeopardy. However they wanted to make an issue that was not there.
Rick Scott is running an ad right now saying he is in favor of IVF, but his party opposes it. He is such a tool does anyone believe that after his youngest daughter has her kids he will tow the party line and oppose IVF and shoes for women like the rest of his party.
What percentage of rapes is reported? And what is the acceptable number of women to be forced to carry their rapists fetuses to term.
The number of third term abortions is minute and most are done because of the fetus being non viable or carrying the fetus to term could be fatal to the woman. As a compromise I think a reasonable limit to when an abortion could occur is okay as long as the viability of the fetus and health of the mother is considered.
Using the word “convenience” in respect to abortion is incredibly condescending and trivializes someone’s very personal situation. It is very easy to be dogmatic when something cannot happen to YOU. You have no idea what someone’s situation may be and at the end of the day it is absolutely none of your business. So no, I wouldn’t support a ban on elective abortion and you can save your “late term” arguments since most pro-birthers on this board don’t understand that situation.
It's mind blowing that anyone would demand the opposite, but they do - men do! - in the name of some antiquated religion most of the world doesn't believe. I'd be willing to bet you no man would demand that of his wife, such is the hypocrisy. This is why my earlier post referred to us as Homo sapiens: there is something almost genetic about no man wanting to raise a child sired by, for example, a Russian soldier who raped his wife. And how would that be fair to the child?
Was she able to have an abortion in Texas after her doctor declared it medically necessary? No. Did her doctor get a court order allowing it? Yes. Why did she not get the abortion in Texas after the court allowed it? The Texas attorney general, the person responsible for enforcing the law in Texas, who presumably read the law, told the doctor and the hospital he would charge them with a crime if they went forward with the act that you say would be legal under their laws. Is it the Texas Attorney General who doesn't understand the law in Texas, or is it possible that you don't understand the Texas law as well as the Texas Attorney General?
If the doctor had noted the mothers life was in jeopardy…she could have preformed the procedure. The court said as much in its decision.
As it turned out, the Texas Supreme idiots sided with the Attorney General in ruling that performing the abortion would violate the Texas law, which is why this woman had to leave her state to get the care she needed. I hate that people have turned this woman into a political football. As I have mentioned here before, this is EXACTLY what my wife and I went through many years ago. As a Catholic, I do not personally support abortion. My wife, who is Jewish, does not support abortion either. When we were advised to do so by all of the doctors, we both decided against it. Our daughter was born and lived 17 minutes and 28 seconds. The delivery went awful and we almost lost my wife, and we did lose the opportunity to ever have children again. My wife never even saw the baby she almost lost her life delivering. Despite our personal opinions, we are both HORRIFIED that anyone dares to FORCE any woman/couple to ever, ever, ever have to go through that. The arrogance, and blind indifference to the lives that are hugely impacted by self-righteous scum bags without any thought or concern to the people involved is infuriating to me. It took years for us to recover. We lost our daughter, we lost the chance to ever have children and we almost lost our marriage. Republicans? Pro-Life my ass!! They are scum, plain and simple. They do not give a damn about life or people who are alive. They care about control, state driven religion and dragging our country backwards by 100+ years. I will not be shocked when some of these redneck, scumbag states challenge the 13th Amendment and try to bring slavery back too.....being, good pro-lifers and all. THAT is the Republican Party of 2024 in the United States, nothing but an alleged Christian version of the Taliban.
Also noted is your refusal to address real life tragedies and, especially, your hypocrisy. Would you demand of your wife that she bear the child of a rapist? If you say under no circumstances should a fetus be aborted, I will argue no further with you because that would mean you have a principle you admiringly adhere to. BUT, if you start making exceptions, then you are admitting a fetus is not always sacred, and the only debate would be when exceptions should be made. I don't expect you to understand this.
