This is ironic. Rape is heinous because it is a violation and abuse of another person's body without their permission. So, the proposed solution to this horrific crime is to violate the baby's body without his/her permission. Then make proclamations that this morally right because of ____________.

There is no satisfactory answer to put in the blank there. Whatever horrible words describe a rapist are the horrible words that describe a person who would kill a baby because at their root they both dehumanize a person and treat them like trash.

It would also help to remember that most rapes go unreported, so perhaps that number was simply extrapolated.

Easy for you to say. Ever been raped? ever faced the prospect of carrying a rapists baby to full term, then having to raise it? Or looking at it's face and seeing features that resemble your rapist. Having a child should be a a loving act between CONSENTING adults.

So your empathy only applies to fetuses. Women are just vessels for having babies. You are several centuries behind the times. The Taliban think like you.

Under a sane abortion policy, there would be no need for any “exception” for rape.

Early term abortions are terminating pregnancy before there is a sensient being, truly it shouldn’t matter the reason for an abortion at this phase of pregnancy. I see no reason to grant this particular exception for later term abortions. Does this ever even happen? I’d wonder how many rape victims would wait to have an abortion, you’d think most would be looking to end it the minute they found out their rapist impregnated them, not waiting ‘till that 3rd trimester.

There was a point in time decades ago that anti abortionists mostly supported exceptions for rape and incest, or so they said. Now they oppose any exception.

Used to it was about states rights to make abortion policy. Now they want a federal ban.

Make no mistake left to their own devices they will implement their own version of Christian Sharia, which will encompass not abortion but IVF, birth control, premarital sex, homosexuality etc.

Underscores that it is about power and control. All that pro life rhetoric is a red herring.

It is possible some may feel ashamed and not come forward right away. In those cases I’d say viability is a reasonable limit - 3rd trimester not so much.

Unreported rapes were already factored into those calculations. Extrapolated or not, the conclusion of the article you referenced is most likely false.

Accurate data is critical to any discussion.

There is no lie too big that would not be told to cover for Murder Inc. We could have an honest conversation about what it looks like to equally value both lives, but honesty here does not favor the pro-abortion side. In no world does dismembering, starving, or chemically burning a baby treat that baby as a person with equal dignity to the mother. In fact treating the baby with dignity in no way conflicts with treating the mother with dignity. Treating the baby with dignity shows we are more compassionate people than the rapist.

I think a better analogy here can be seen with child abuse. Many child abusers were abused themselves as a child. The abused becomes the abuser. That is not excusable with a victim of child abuse, and it is not excusable with a mother who has been raped.

I think your analysis is interesting & prob closer to right than the #s given in the article. I have seen many outlandish #s used over the years. I had a sociologist on my diss. committee. I was up in her dept 1 day waiting to meet with her & discovered how Reagan (not picking on him, just a vivid memory) got his #s for the weed-induced productivity losses he freq. spewed. It was preposterous. It was something like a survey where they asked how much money do you make & do you smoke weed. They extrapolated from there. (Ironically, my chair had gone to Canada to more directly test weed/productivity at a women's prison - it was a bust).

I disagree that accurate data is critical to any discussion. Any dis. that relies on theory as opposed to data does not need accurate data. I've seen you in religious dis. that seem to be independent of data, accurate or otherwise. I am friends with 1 of the leading climate experts in the world. He does not use any data. He is not an empirical scientist. As an economist, I have always preferred the elegance of theory over data.

Further, there is almost no accurate data. So, you better be wrong.

I see Davis liked my post - he has good taste. I bet when he's discussing whether Johnny Ramone or Angus Young is the greatest musician of our time, data is not an issue.

I too love the elegance of theories. In high school I loved geometric proofs.

What I meant by “accurate data is critical to a discussion” is if data is presented, it needs to be as accurate as possible. I was not applying that to discussions where data is not introduced.

I have no idea what you meant by your last sentence.

I don't even agree that that is always the case. Many times args are more qualitative than quantitative. You don't need accurate data of how many Elk have been illegally shot in Rocky Mt to make an arg that Elk have been illegally shot in Rocky Mt.

My last sentence is that there is very little accurate data in the world. (Me & my fam collected data in Africa that is now in data bases - it's def inaccurate) How many hrs a week do you work? Virtually no one can accurately ans that Q.

    p.s. 11th grade Geometry - loved the proofs. I worked hard cuz I wanted to impress Chrissy O. & I did....first GF.

Ha! I barely know who those guitarists are, but I think one played with AC/DC and the other the Ramones? As for data, I'm just hoping the reviewers will accept our qualitative methodology & analysis (claimed our paper lacks data analysis) as we resubmit our revised paper. I mostly gave up on quantitative years ago, as it's too problematic when attempting to measure anything about music/musicianship.

I understand what you’re saying and accept it for the most part. But would you want policy decisions to be made on widely inaccurate data?

BTW, in my master thesis on economic instruments to control global warming, I argued that regardless of the data, there are measures that would bring other desired benefits in addition to mitigating climate change. No data required for that.

Bitches Brew was foundational for jazz/rock fusion. Side note (music hijacks are the best hijacks): I played a Kind of Blue tribute show at a theater a week ago. First set of random tunes recorded by Miles. Second set an album recreation. All the same as the record, except for the solos, which were improvised. I woodshedded like a mofo for two months to be able to play it and thank goodness it went great! Even jazz slummers like you probably know KoB.

    Good luck w the basement!
