Not sure what to make of this.. Big time recruit, but redshirted her first year & only 10 IP this past year. Only gave up 4 hits in those 10 nnings. Also a lefty. AU has about 20 innings pitched returning from a Fr & So. and majority were pre sec. i expect they add at least 1 more in circle. Still nothing proven on roster to this point.
I think Guerin can be good. Aside from Bahl OU has not been the best at developing their own pitchers the last few years. And Bahl never really changed from how she came in. Their own recruits jsut keep getting shadowed behind the transfers. There's a reason she went to OU and I would think she'd be good if given the opportunity. I bet she could be similar to Lowe.
playing devil's advocate, people blame rocha's departure for the drop off in pitching, yet according to the above post she did not develop non portal pitchers, which is it?
I don't blame roachas departure for our drop-off. Barnhill was our last highly recruited pitcher until Delbrey whos mental game i think was the issue. Chronister and Hightower both had injury issues. Lugo improved under Bosch but just wasnt that elite talent. I also didn't say she did not develop them at OU. I said OU hasn't been the best the last few years at developing because they keep bringing in transfers that overshadow their recruits. But i standby about OU. Unless Deal makes a huge jump over the offeason or Monticelli, I'm not convinced on their pitcher development. Deal was supposed to be a top pitcher and I think she would be very good if she had more experience. So much is learned through pulling through tough games as we saw with our young arms this year.
It’s Official, Tim has announced Kenleigh Cahalan as a Gator: Cahalan Finds New Home with Gators - Florida Gators
So im guessing. Brown at 1st, competition for 2nd, Cahalenat short, AK at 3rd,, jocey at catcher, Korbe in left, kendra in CF , competition for RF .Megan at DP. Sound about right?
My take: Reagan DP, Kendra CF, Korbe LF, Jocey C and AK has earned a position, but where (3B most likely). All other positions are open with Kenleigh and a stud class coming in.
I predict at least 2 of the new freshmen earn starting roles somewhere. Kowalewski is very versatile and came to Florida primarily as a catcher. She worked her tail off to earn the 3B job, but don't be surprised if she competes for SS and/or 2B as well. The battle for RF, I think, will be between Cassidy McLellan, Taylor Shumaker and Townson Thomas. Gabi Comia will compete for SS and Layla Lamar will be trying to earn PT at either 1st or 3rd.
You must know something about Comia I don't know. I think with Cahalan coming in that subject is closed.
Kowalewski I can see playing anywhere. The only thing I can see an issue at 3b was her bunt defense. But I think that will be worked on and was probably jsut due to inexperience.
Well, I didn't keep numbers but I thought she made more nice bunt plays than I can count on two hands.
CTW has a good problem. With this talented group he is going to have to make some tough decisions on who plays where. He and his staff will have to mold this group into a team like they did with last year’s team.
I have no inside information. But it's not like Cahalan is Skylar Wallace. She hit. 296 with a .946 fielding %. I'm sure she has the inside track to SS, but Mia Williams will be given a shot there and Comia hit .624 in high school and is a tremendous athlete. She was a pretty good basketball player as well and can't be cast aside as a possible replacement for Wallace at SS. Maybe she wins the SS position and Cahalan takes over 2nd base, who knows? But just because we signed Cahalan doesn't mean the SS position is automatically locked up for her, IMO. She's going to have to earn it.
With the exception of Catcher (Jocey) , Left Field (Korbe), Centerfield (Kendra), DP (Reagan) and third base (AK and she can compete for SS or 2B), all other lineup positions are up for grabs will have to be earned. This is a very talented group and after the completion, I trust CTW and staff will the make the best decisions for the team as they did for catcher, 3B and LF for this last year’s team.
There were good plays but there were several that reached base on us form being position way back and not prepared. I think it's jsut from being so young on the infield.
I would not want to be the person sorting out the line up. My wife said that if I were trying to coach the gators, they would all quit the first day
