I can’t take this thread seriously. The golden rule, the 10 commandments, a list of morality constructs for a generation that can’t wipe their asses?

here are some that sums up what it’s like for a middle schooler.

    1. Respect your teacher
    2. There is a paddle hanging in the principal’s office.
    3. Don’t do stupid things
    4. Your grades are a reflection of your work ethic
    5. Read and ask questions
    6. Leave your phone off
    7. Turn in your homework on time
    8. Hormones are real and don’t pop your pimples
    9. Don’t back up the toilet in the boys bathroom
    10. If you wonder why 9 happens in the unisex bathroom, perhaps you should use the girls bathroom.

I don’t get how someone as rational as you would support this. Wasteful government spending to put the Ten Commandments in the classroom? What objective does posting it accomplish? They already readily available to anyone who wants to read them. If the goal is to make “bad kids” behave, are people really naive enough to think that this will have any effect?

They didn't quote you, though. They were referring to their Church’s debates and in no way referred to you. And yet you challenged them as if they accused you of something when they didn't.

If the shoe fits. There are those who would gleefully impose their beliefs on all of us and they are trying to do just that.

... and there it is again. Your language implies you know better than me. Peak arrogance. I'm interested to know - can you see it? Proverbs 16:18?

As for my fifty year study (your words, not mine - certainly not how I portrayed it), please elaborate. It goes without saying I'm glad you can speak for my life's cumulative experience.
One day I can only hope to be as clever as you(!)

I don’t disagree with most of what you wrote, except the bold part. Purely from a 10C perspective, Trump’s profiteering and fundraising with his face imposed with Jesus, selling bibles, rising as a god, all blatantly and irrefutably violate the Third Commandment. And I truly cannot see any rationalization for it. You can like the guy with all of his faults - we all have choices — but I just don’t see how you can excuse away that type of behavior(purely from a theological perspective).

I would only add that I thought there was NO government spending, it is all financed by donations.

If “she” actually wrote it, that would have been the first commandment. Girl boss must have delegated or that was an intentional omission on Moses’ part.

Not sure I recall the Obama Messiah Complex, nor did his followers create imagery of him as G*d, Jesus or an angel that I recall. Maybe it was there and I just did not see or want to see it.

However, I think conservativism is absurd. Adhering to document written 250 years ago by men who could not even fathom the world in which we now live in. That said, if conservatives win an election fairly, then I have no problem living with the consequences of those elections.

My issues with Donald Trump is that he is neither a conservative nor liberal. Honestly, the guy is an idiot who very likely does not know what is even in the Constitution of the United States. However, it is the diefication of this morally corrupt pile of dung that I have issue with, both from him and the ignorant fools who venerate him to the point where he is treated as above human.

As a person who enjoys constitutional history, what's interesting to me is many of the men at the Constitutional Convention thought in similar terms to your thinking. At the time of drafting and ratifying the Constitution, there is good evidence that the majority of the framers didn't conceive of the Constitution as a fixed text with a determinable meaning. Rather, they saw it as a dynamic, unfinished system that would evolve with our society, benefitting from experience and the democratic process. They did not conceive of it as merely a static, archival text.

No one could conceive that Alito, Thomas, Kavanaugh, Gorsuch and Coney Barrett would actually be confirmed as SCOTUS justices along with the havoc they would wreak. More than half of them should have been indicted for perjury.

LOL. Criticism of Trump's lack of morality is incessant because he behaves in a morally inappropriate way incessantly....as in daily. Read his "tweets". People need to be reminded of this as some who hold themselves out to be Christians are actually planning to vote for him. If we can use this Ten Commandment requirement as a scorecard for Trump it might serve a useful purpose by either shocking them back into reality or forcing them to come to terms with their own hypocrisy.

Back when I was in public school, I don't remember any classmates being involved in adultery. Some may have coveted their neighbor's wife but they couldn't do anything about it. But there should be one commandment on the classroom wall: "Thou shalt not covet thy teacher." I still remember my high-school English teacher telling Freddie, who was sitting on the front row looking at her, "Freddie, get your mind out of the gutter."

The Obama messiah complex was created whole cloth in the minds of republicans. They are the only people that ever referred to him as a messiah. They also railed against him for being a narcissist. Then they went and elected a dude who puts his name in giant gold letters on everything he owns.

They criticized Obama for wearing a tan suit at a press conference, but they worship a guy who will only wear orange skin in public.

I’m not clever, just a sinner who recognizes (a) His word is the only truth, (b) I am a sinner needing help (Grace and Forgiveness) and (c) where to find it.
