I have no way of confirming this, but I am highly skeptical that enrollment is significantly impacted at Emerson by the protests, as there is a far more likely explanation.

We toured there with my daughter when she was looking at colleges. It is almost exclusively a school to train for careers in the arts, especially the movie business. My daughter went to NYU instead and has been fortunate enough to stay employed in the industry though not as a creative as she hoped.

But employment prospects in the industry right now are horrible. There are reasons to suspect it's temporary (tech labor deal) and reasons to think it's far more significant (post streaming overcapacity hangover, AI).

Here is a recent Slate podcast

What Next: The Hollywood Strikes Are Over. No One's Back To Work. - Slate Daily Feed

Given all that, I would be shocked if enrollment wasn't significantly down at Emerson. This sounds like the administration using the protests to explain declining enrollment when the answer is a bit more obvious, but is perhaps one that others think they should have figured out how to overcome.

I am truly interested to see the application numbers at some of the higher profile protest schools this fall, especially the ones that had the no go zones. They will take a hit, but whether it’s insignificant, marginal or truly significant, we will see. On the flip side, I’m also interested to see whether Sasse’s public support of all things Jewish and “law and order” means higher app numbers as well. It’s kind of a fascinating sociological experiment on how families view politics, protests and safety on campus.

What was the “sarcastic reference to the article” and how do we know when it happened? Please point me to something that is clearly anti-Semitic. I’m not saying it didn’t happen. I’m just not seeing anything in that article that would qualify.

It seems to be conflating anti-Zionism with anti-Semitism. If Jewish students feel uncomfortable that people are protesting on behalf of Palestine against Israel that is unfortunate. But we have freedom of speech in this country. Unless someone is clearly advocating violence or intimidation this sort of opinion should be able to be voiced (whether it’s wrong or not). And I don’t see anyone doing those things in this article.

Depends on the time horizon. There is little doubt that in the short-term, the Sasse approach is good for University business, which is the metric you are using. The generation that currently makes decisions in the United States is very strongly on one side of the issue.

But that may not and likely will not continue on a longer time horizon. There's a substantial moral dimension and debate that is being suppressed currently but will not likely be suppressed in the future. Substantial moral issues are rarely resolved long-term with force or funds.

There are two other considerations though. Will we become the Jewish go to school? We already have more Jews than any school in the world outside of Israel, so why not lean into that? Sasse has been doing that since October.
But the larger question, is the Fox News effect. And by that I mean, Fox always touts their ratings. Well those were largely a product of them being the only conservative game in town, while the liberal and moderate viewership has been spilt a bunch of ways. If we are seen as the only top end public university that leans conservative, or at least isn’t liberal, we could almost corner a very large market of kids. Not sure what that would mean for UF though, the concern is what happens to our reputation in academia if we are seen as truly conservative, it could become self defeating.
But it will be interesting to watch.

I briefly looked at a guy the other day. I don’t know. He may have been Jewish.

Those posts above were about ten minutes of reading around, I am sure I could have found more, and in a few days I am sure I can pull that many again.

No one can prove that I’ve ever been in any way, shape or form unkind to a descendent of Abraham.

I don’t know. Didn’t they migrate to Poland and then down into what we call Israel today ?

Now you're obfuscating your earlier non specific, vague denial of unkindness.
