Louisiana Becomes First State To Require Ten Commandments In Public School Classrooms

I chose to partake in a conversation about whether the ten commandments belong in public schools. Your "sone (sic) of you" comment is in itself dramatic compared to mine and many others posted here.
And no, I don't feel tied to any poll (sic).

 

That's the crux of the problem in a nutshell for me.

I have zero problem with people having their own take through religious expression. You do you. The issue at hand though is many - not all - but many act as if you're sorry for those that aren't 'enlightened' to your way of thinking. It's peak level arrogance.

I don't look at you and feel 'sorry' you don't see it from my perspective. Far from it - I am happy you found something that fills your life - genuinely.
But you, and religion as whole, does yourself/itself no favours by acting like those who don't agree are troglodytes and don't know any better.

I've evaluated religion, faith, history for approaching 5 decades of my life. Honestly, I find it to be a means to coerce a collective narrative, accumulate wealth and power through a litany of promises about an after-life which can't be challenged or proven until it's too late and play on one of our biggest fears - mortality. Another might call that the ultimate trap scam. Religion does not have a monopoly on 'doing good'. I'm a good person and live my life in service to others. Besides, if Christianity, Islam or any other major religion really wanted to it could alleviate, much less wipe out global poverty over night in the name of their God.

But you know what? If that's your bag, you do it.
Based on my understanding, there are thousands of Deities - I only fail to believe in one more than most of you do, which is not some sort of huge leap.
But that position is critically evaluated - and it's not for a lack of seeing your light.

Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick pledges to pass Ten Commandments bill after Louisiana passes similar law

Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick is pledging to pass a bill that would require public school and college classrooms to display the Ten Commandments, days after a similar Louisiana measure became law.

In a social media post, Patrick criticized Texas state House Speaker Dade Phelan, a Republican, for killing a state Senate bill that would have required the display of the Ten Commandments in schools. On Thursday, he vowed to bring the measure back.

"SB 1515 will bring back this historical tradition of recognizing America’s heritage, and remind students all across Texas of the importance of a fundamental foundation of American and Texas law: the Ten Commandments," Patrick wrote on X. "Putting the Ten Commandments back into our schools was obviously not a priority for Dade Phelan."

 

Why can’t we Christians keep religion to our Churches, and homes, and holidays, and celebrations, and retailers, and art, and music, and sports… just about everywhere it is today without trying to take over schools and laws and workplaces? Religion is just about everywhere and excluded from very few places.

 

Christianity basically boils down to being a good person and living a life of service to others.

Well it’s obvious you do not understand a Christian’s belief and what many feel is important. To think someone offering a prayer for another means one “feels sorry” for the other is a profound misunderstanding of His word and why one prays for another.

I once felt much like you do but then realized how wrong I was. I’m not sure your 50 year study of “religions” has served you well but that is just my opinion.

Faith can’t be prevented. Practicing one’s faith can and is being prevented. Ask a certain baker in Colorado.

 

"Ramming it down the throats" is a pretty overused phrase. Gay pride parades and rainbows don't do it to straight people. BLM marches don't do it to whites. The Ten Commandments don't do it to non-Christians.

That said, requiring it to be posted seems more like "Hah, hah we win and screw the rest of you" than it does anything about teaching kindness and morality.

BUT...Its odd that people call you a bigot if you say that "pride" is crammed down your throat, but would likely cry foul if you called them a bigot for doing the same about religion.

 

I heard the other day that we shouldn’t consider the Bible as a book but as a library. Some books are fantasy. Some books are historical fiction. Etc etc.
