bs question. trump laments all the o'biden wrongs while not mentioning price levels beyond energy. to get back to 2019 price level would require deflation likely seen in great recessions and depressions. this is the legacy o'biden is leaving trump.

The question is what would Trump do to get inflation back to 2%? Raise tariffs? That's inflationary. Deport millions and cause massive labor shortages? Also inflationary. Demand the Fed lower rates? Hmm, that would be inflationary too! So what, besides being an Orange God that can do no wrong, will Trump actually do to lower inflation? Which as the chart shows, has been slowing down on its own.

wrong democratic party can opener, off topic with post 1. i could have said the sky is blue in thread title and you would have served a democratic talking point as evidence the sky is red, sad and predictable.

I’m not sure what he meant by inflation being “permanent.” I agree with you that the rate fluctuates. The inflation rate coming down, however, does not translate to lower prices unless the inflation rate is negative, or deflation.

So the 8% inflation of 2022 is now built into the prices in the marketplace. The last deflation in our economy was small amount in 1955. The greatest amount of the 20s and 30s.

    Interesting data:

Obama/Biden, playing into the false belief that Obama is still secretly pulling the strings behind the scenes.

Trump is proposing a 10% tariff. Economists say that amounts to a $1,700 tax on Americans.

a 10% across the board tariff would definitely be inflationary.

Given Biden’s age I would take comfort in Obama pulling the strings. But to really think that is happening is moronic.

Would probably help his polling too. He should probably lean into this conspiracy theory.

Let me fill you in on something, many variables conrtrubute to sealing/strengthening the currency. Excessive money printing and borrowing are certainly one that is one of the larger

Chart pixelated for me, but looks like the X-axis is 0% and the beginning date was May ‘20.

Instead of the current healthy 3.3% rate, you want inflation brought back to the glory days when Trump was telling his minions to snort bleach to kill a virus? Right when the economy was brought to a screeching halt? Umm…strong hell no.

^ I think it was snort crushed up hydroxychloroquine and inject the bleach. Somehow get it inside the body. So it could do a cleansing.

Oh, and ultraviolet light in the anooss.

    Sorry. Off topic I guess...

Look at all the expert opinion cited in Post 6. This thread is about inflation, and it seems like pretty much ALL the experts think it would be worse under your makeup wearing guy.

So shouldn't you at least be like "I know he'd probably make inflation worse, but that's not the only issue. So I'm still going to vote for the convicted felon. "

And Trump and the Republicans are the party of borrow and spend. The motto of the party should be "better to borrow and inflate the debt and deficit than to raise taxes to increase revenue". If fact Trump has promised to lower taxes further if he is elected.
One of the few times Donald Trump actually told the truth.
Trump:"I am the king of debt"
Trump also presided during one of the few times in American history in which the national debt increased during peacetime when the unemployment rate was declining.

As far as weakening the currency is concerned. What the president says actually has an impact on the value of the currency as do excessively low interest rates. Lowering interest rates at the wrong time in the economic cycle will temporarily juice up the economy and will almost always be followed by a significant increase in inflation. A compliant Fed juiced up the economy in 1972 giving Nixon one of the largest electoral victories in history. It was followed by double digit inflation in late 1973 and 1974 and a severe recession in late '74 and '75 when the Fed cracked down on the inflation that it caused.
