It will be interesting to see how Gaetz responds. Does he sue Gonzales for defamation? Does he try to rally the MAGA wing of the party to censure Gonzales? Does he ignore it and hopes it all goes away because it is true and he doesn't have a leg to stand on here?

Of course, some of the lodging expenses may have been inflated by the need to pretend like the 17-year-old had a different room

I'm flying through this, but I am not sure I would call it an "expansion" based on this blurb:

Gaetz was also under investigation by the U.S. Justice Department for allegations that he had sex with a 17-year-old girl and paid for her to travel with him. The DOJ ended the investigation in February 2023 and did not bring charges against Gaetz.

The House Ethics Committee said on Tuesday that it is also dropping its investigation into a series of other allegations against Gaetz. It said it “will take no further action at this time on the allegations that he may have shared inappropriate images or videos on the House floor, misused state identification records, converted campaign funds to personal use, and/or accepted a bribe or improper gratuity.”

 

Just curious (and I am not a Gaetz guy other than I agree with his policies). But you sure seem to not be worried about whether he is innocent. Instead you seem to want something to stick regardless of whether Gaetz did anything?

All day take a shot at his dui. Or things he has actually done. But I don’t understand the hoping. What if he did nothing wrong?

 

There doesn’t seem to be much doubt he was diddling around with a 17 year old (why else was he paying her via VENMO?).

Maybe she lied about her age? That happens. She obviously didn’t cooperate much with authorities or didn’t seem credible as a witness (a poster above claimed she went into adult film?). None of this makes Gaetz less of a scumbag even if it makes a criminal case challenging.

 

This explains the high success rate of federal prosecutions I assume?

This does feel somewhat political. It's like "okay we can't get you on the allegations we destroyed your reputation with. So now we're going to invent some process crimes and we'll get you that way." Like the Trump Manhattan trial, without the steroids.
