A well written story about why the author, a small town conservative girl, doesn't tolerate homophobes. I like how she leaves out the name of the place until later in the story. Lets you appreciate what they did for the woman in the accident without being distracted by knowing what happened later.

Wishing All the Homophobes a Super Uncomfortable Month

He [new best friend at work] visited the barn and taught me how to lasso. I picked up his favorite latte on the way to work. And on our lunch breaks, he would gush all about the love of his life, Jesse. I assumed Jesse was a girl, but that assumption turned out to be wrong. When we all met for lunch one day, I couldn't conceal my shock.

"Oh my GOSH, Matt! You're gay?"

"Um, DUH." He laughed. “Did the cowboy hat throw you off?”

I then remembered he had recently pointed out a bar a few blocks from my house. He mentioned that it was a fun place to go, and I replied that one day we should….but I hadn’t noticed the rainbow details.

The author in the article quoted in the OP is the bigot who hates God, Christianity, Christ, and His gospel. She is a very intolerant bigoted prejudiced person who has cloaked it in being a SJW ally.

True love believes the truth and rejoices in the truth, and it does not flatter people as they proceed down the highway of destruction. Flattering someone to destruction is actually one of the most unloving things someone can do.

You recently are morphing into a rather unpleasant individual. Where is all the hate coming from?

That isn't how I read her writing, but you can interpret it how you like.

For those following along at home, here is another good one by her:
It's Okay for Christians to Criticize Church

I grew up in the South where girls are raised to believe that it’s better to be nice than just rock the boat.

But you know what problem that causes?

It causes people to be silent in the face of serious issues. It asks people to silently suffer abuse.

When I criticize the church, that’s because I LOVE the church and I want her to collectively heal.

This thread reminds me of this gem, which hits the head on so many issues that come up again and again.

I read it, but one thing that struck me - that I don’t think she and many others not familiar with more fundamentalist faiths - she wrote “being gay is not a sin”. But to many fundamentalists it is and is documented as such in their scripture.

You can have a more nuanced argument about yes, while it is a sin, there are a lot of other sins that the church accepts and lives with, like infidelity or divorce, with tolerance and forgiveness, but homosexuality seems to be viewed from a more negative lens.

So to a degree, the religion is the problem.

Now many will choose to interpret the scripture differently. But that is a conscious choice.

While I agree with your posts I am having a hard time reconciling them with your Mormon faith. While there are aspects of Mormonism I admire, tolerance for different social lifestyles is not what the church is known for.

I really think it depends on the church, but I don’t think this is an accurate representation of what the Bible actually teaches. Even Jesus said things like, “Go and sin no more.” Or “If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body go into hell.”

That is getting at the concept of repentance. Divorce is wrong, yes, but have you repented? Stealing is wrong, yes, but have you repented?

Have you turned from that sin? If not that sin could ultimately keep you out of the kingdom of heaven. That is what Jesus taught.

The line “being gay is not a sin” is a big lie. An entire city was engulfed in fire and consumed in a moment in the Old Testament for that sin among others. There are not many sins for which that type of judgment was executed on an entire society.

I'm all for modeling my life on the Ten Commandments, but relying on a book written over two thousand years ago decades after Christ's death by many "authors", mostly with ulterior motives, is not how I want to model my life, and certainly not in the dogmatic, unforgiving way some interpret the compendium they call "the Bible".

I find it stunningly remarkable that Christians who preach about the Bible support Trump. I call these people CINO's. But we are all prone to rationalization, otherwise known as lying to ourselves,

I've never had a single person in my life try to convince me to become gay or trans.

I've had 9000 people in my life try to convince me to become Christian.

Being attracted to people of the same gender isn't the sin. Having sex with them is the sin.

This is the resource the church publishes for parents and family members trying to figure out what to do when they find out a loved is gay.

My loved one is gay. What should I do?

Talking about one’s same-sex attraction can be terrifying and confusing. Your child, spouse, or family member may not have known how to talk to you about it. You may sometimes feel inadequate. Although you may not always know how to respond to the struggles your family member faces, you will never regret reaching out with love and understanding.

You will never regret saying “I love you.”

You will never regret throwing your arms around your loved one and hugging him or her. You will never regret listening. You will never regret trying to understand.

    ...

"We’re given commandments. When we obey those commandments, we are obedient. The consequence of being obedient to commandments is to put ourselves in harmony with the eternal law that permits us to grow and progress toward eternal life. The Savior commanded His followers to ‘love one another; as I have loved you’ (John 13:34). So we look at how He loved us. He sacrificed Himself for us. He was concerned always with the individual. He had a wonderful outreach for people. I think those are all indicators of how we can love one another like He loved us. If we make Him our role model, we should always be trying to reach out to include everyone”

So I’ll give that credit for at least instructing people to treat others with compassion and understanding. It does say, indirectly that being gay is not being obedient to God and risks progress towards eternal life - which is pretty consistent with many Christian religions.

Back around 2008 the Mormons were instrumental in funding the law banning gay marriage in CA - which was overturned by the 9th circuit court.
