The author in the article quoted in the OP is the bigot who hates God, Christianity, Christ, and His gospel. She is a very intolerant bigoted prejudiced person who has cloaked it in being a SJW ally.

True love believes the truth and rejoices in the truth, and it does not flatter people as they proceed down the highway of destruction. Flattering someone to destruction is actually one of the most unloving things someone can do.

This thread reminds me of this gem, which hits the head on so many issues that come up again and again.

 

I read it, but one thing that struck me - that I don’t think she and many others not familiar with more fundamentalist faiths - she wrote “being gay is not a sin”. But to many fundamentalists it is and is documented as such in their scripture.

You can have a more nuanced argument about yes, while it is a sin, there are a lot of other sins that the church accepts and lives with, like infidelity or divorce, with tolerance and forgiveness, but homosexuality seems to be viewed from a more negative lens.

So to a degree, the religion is the problem.

Now many will choose to interpret the scripture differently. But that is a conscious choice.

While I agree with your posts I am having a hard time reconciling them with your Mormon faith. While there are aspects of Mormonism I admire, tolerance for different social lifestyles is not what the church is known for.

 

I really think it depends on the church, but I don’t think this is an accurate representation of what the Bible actually teaches. Even Jesus said things like, “Go and sin no more.” Or “If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body go into hell.”

That is getting at the concept of repentance. Divorce is wrong, yes, but have you repented? Stealing is wrong, yes, but have you repented?

Have you turned from that sin? If not that sin could ultimately keep you out of the kingdom of heaven. That is what Jesus taught.

The line “being gay is not a sin” is a big lie. An entire city was engulfed in fire and consumed in a moment in the Old Testament for that sin among others. There are not many sins for which that type of judgment was executed on an entire society.

I'm all for modeling my life on the Ten Commandments, but relying on a book written over two thousand years ago decades after Christ's death by many "authors", mostly with ulterior motives, is not how I want to model my life, and certainly not in the dogmatic, unforgiving way some interpret the compendium they call "the Bible".

I find it stunningly remarkable that Christians who preach about the Bible support Trump. I call these people CINO's. But we are all prone to rationalization, otherwise known as lying to ourselves,

I've never had a single person in my life try to convince me to become gay or trans.

I've had 9000 people in my life try to convince me to become Christian.

 

So I’ll give that credit for at least instructing people to treat others with compassion and understanding. It does say, indirectly that being gay is not being obedient to God and risks progress towards eternal life - which is pretty consistent with many Christian religions.

Back around 2008 the Mormons were instrumental in funding the law banning gay marriage in CA - which was overturned by the 9th circuit court.
