This is as good a Bollywood redemption story as any! “In 2010, Saurabh Netravalkar endured heartbreak against Pakistan in the quarter-final of the Under-19 World Cup in Christchurch. Babar Azam was in the opponent's camp that day, as Pakistan pipped India by two wickets in a rain-affected thriller. Fourteen years later, he had the opportunity to win for his new country, the USA, a T20 World Cup game against Pakistan. Tasked to bowl the Super Over, Netravalkar defended 18 as USA recorded a famous win that gives them a great chance of securing an entry into the Super Eights.” From computers to cricket: how Saurabh Netravalkar coded USA's greatest script
The field is teeming with men in helmets that don't seem like they need helmets and men not in helmets who seem like they should probably be wearing helmets. It's a wicked googly.
It just like in baseball where the catcher wears a helmet and facemask because balls get thrown at him, but no one else does even though balls can get hit at the other guys, and can also hit their head and face
Update - India beat Pakistan in an absolute thriller today. This result greatly boosts Team US’ chances of moving to the next round. India plays The US on Wednesday in NY. T20 Cricket World Cup: Pakistan succumbs to heartbreaking defeat against archrival India | CNN
USA v/ India at the halfway point - USA batted first and recovered after a horrific start to score 110 in their innings. Below par IMO but could be competitive on what has been a difficult pitch to bat on. Will take another miracle to pull off the upset. The difficult pitch and the shortened format (20 over per side equivalent to 120 pitches) has been a great leveler for teams with less talent level. Think of it as a football or basketball game with only 1 quarter. It becomes easier with teams with less talent to compete.
India wins it relatively comfortably in the end with ten pitches left. Commendable effort by Team USA and they can feel proud with the effort to keep it close for most of the game. US plays its last group game on Friday against Ireland in Lauderhill, FL. US needs a win or a loss by Pakistan to Ireland (unlikely) in their final group game to move on to the next stage ahead of Pakistan.
It was probably hyperbole, but many years ago I read a commentator who said cricket has more laws of the game than England has laws of the country.
No they don’t. If the ball goes out of the boundary without bouncing (like a home run), that’s six runs. If it bounces before going over, then that’s four runs. Batters don’t need to run for either.
So if it bounces and a fielder catches it just before it goes over the boundary, the batter still needs to run between the wickets to gain runs?
