UF softball catcher Jocelyn Erikson, the best catcher in the nation, is outstanding at 1st base pickoffs. She has a heckuva arm, but being left handed makes it easier to throw down to 1st base.

Congrats to the team and coaches. I never thought this would happen. We have great leadership from the coaches and guys that want to keep going. We have been here before and it showed. No matter what happens going forward, this has been, post season, a thrilling ride. All I can say is, Keep it going Gators!

I also want to mention Thomas’ other at bats. The dude has been silently battling out there, usually bringing it to a full count and often getting on base via walk or hit. The 7 hole is no longer a dead spot in the order.

Warren Nolen’s site shows that the gator team elo ranking has jumped 18 spots since May 26th, as the gators now rank 9th in the nation. Their rating is still quite a bit lower than #1 Tennessee’s, but it’s still quite a jump.

The Gators' mountain to climb at the CWS will be a poor season record earned against 4 of the other CWS teams:

    1. Tennessee 1-2
    2. Kentucky 1-2
    3. Texas A&M 2-1
    8. Florida State 0-3

That's a 4-8 record/.333 winning percentage against the CWS field of teams.

On the bright side, the Gators did take 2 of 3 from Texas A&M in Gainesville early in the season.

It's a good thing UF is headed to Omaha playing their best baseball of the season. They will have to continue to do so to compete successfully. First up, Texas A&M on Saturday evening.

I'd venture to say that this Gator team, right now, is playing at a better and a different level than at the time any of those teams was played in the regular season. I hope they all overlook us.

Being told they don’t belong in Omaha has put a chip on their shoulder. I like that for the Gators. We need every intangible we can get.

    Elimination Day of Reckoning:

UF faces off in an elimination game against Kentucky at 10 AM CT. The point of reckoning is the Gators season record against the CWS field, 4-8/.333, see post #27.

If the Gators are eliminated today, UF will end the season at 35-30 and 1-2/.333 against the CWS field.

If the Gators win today to advance to play Texas A&M at 6 PM CT this evening, UF will be 2-1/.667, an improvement over the season record.

Hoping for an upset win against 2 seed Kentucky with UF advancing to the CWS semifinal.

    Go Gators! Spank the mildcats!

    2 Kentucky 4

UF as an unranked and unseeded team has now eliminated seeds 2, 6, 10, and 11.

UF advances to the CWS semifinal needing to beat Texas A&M twice to get to the CWS championship series that starts on Saturday.

UF continues to successfully climb the baseball mountain of history.

Amazing stuff, davis. Hope we have enough for one more.

And since you bumped the elo post, I’ll offer an update. Gators elo rating now about 1700 which is good for 6th in the nation. A gain of 21 spots since May 26.

Wild playoff ride comes to end in CWS semifinal. Congrats to the Gators for making improbable history so enjoyable.
