https://www.cnn.com/2023/10/02/poli...trump-us-service-members-veterans?cid=ios_app “John Kelly, the longest-serving White House chief of staff for Donald Trump, offered his harshest criticism yet of the former president in an exclusive statement to CNN. “Kelly set the record straight with on-the-record confirmation of a number of damning stories about statements Trump made behind closed doors attacking US service members and veterans, listing a number of objectionable comments Kelly witnessed Trump make firsthand. “”What can I add that has not already been said?” Kelly said, when asked if he wanted to weigh in on his former boss in light of recent comments made by other former Trump officials. “A person that thinks those who defend their country in uniform, or are shot down or seriously wounded in combat, or spend years being tortured as POWs are all ‘suckers’ because ‘there is nothing in it for them.’ A person that did not want to be seen in the presence of military amputees because ‘it doesn’t look good for me.’ A person who demonstrated open contempt for a Gold Star family – for all Gold Star families – on TV during the 2016 campaign, and rants that our most precious heroes who gave their lives in America’s defense are ‘losers’ and wouldn’t visit their graves in France”. Trump is a narcissistic sociopath. How anyone, especially those of us who served*, can vote for that man to lead this country is beyond me. * “to serve” others regardless of the consequences is a concept foreign to Trump.
But Trump says he didn't say that, only a "psycho or a crazy person or a very stupid person" would say something like that. Who are you going to believe, some loser named Kelly, or The Chosen One? Trump Demands Biden Remove Ad of Him Insulting Dead Troops Donald Trump on Sunday called for President Joe Biden to take down an attack ad featuring a series of quotes attributed to the Republican in which he mocks dead soldiers. The former president’s demand came on the same day that Biden honored fallen troops in a visit to the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery in France, the burial ground that Trump chose not to visit in 2018 and was later reported to have done so while describing the site as “filled with losers.” Trump has denied making the remark—and another in which he allegedly called more than 1,800 Marines “suckers” for being killed—ever since The Atlantic first published his purported words in 2020. Those denials continued Sunday, first at a rally in Las Vegas. “He said I stood over graves of soldiers and I said: ‘These people are suckers and losers, the dead soldiers from World War I,’’ Trump said, referring to Biden. He went on to claim the whole episode was “made up” and, despite the Biden campaign knowing it’s “phony,” they still “took an ad using it—these are sick people.” Trump appeared to be referring to an attack ad launched by the Biden campaign on Friday during the president’s visit to Normandy for ceremonies commemorating the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings. The video featured the reported “suckers” and “losers” quotes, along with audio of Trump mocking the late Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) as being thought of as a “war hero” because he was captured during the Vietnam War. “I like people that weren’t captured,” Trump added.
The Trump era has been so bizarre. Who to believe, multiple career military men who have served out country with distinction, or the convicted fraudster? It seems like such a clear choice, but so many people are aligning themselves with the fraud. I still can't make any sense of it.
Is it your contention that those Trump sentiments/statements re service and the military are good? Interesting take, kind of tells us a bit about you.
You either support the military or you don't. Not just the ones who weren't injured, killed, or captured. The uniform is not decorations for feel good photo ops and parades. Talk about clueless and tone deaf. They put their lives on the line for all of us. How about some gratitude instead of derision?
It does seem to be a weird comment to make for even an unbalanced moron like Trump. I believe Kelly over Trump though and we live in a world where he slammed McCain as a loser for being captured, but boy is that an inflammatory comment.
I really thought he crossed a red line with McCain but it just turned into a slippery slope and MAGA rode with him as he continued to show more and more disrespect. Another sign it might be a cult. Leader can do no wrong
Don't forget Gates.. https://thehill.com/homenews/sunday...running-for-office-again-it-would-concern-me/ I would have serious concerns about the future. You know, I’ve … worked for eight presidents. Five of them were Republicans. I don’t think any of them would recognize the Republican Party today,” Gates said. “I think in terms of the values and the principles that the Republican Party stood for under those five presidents are hard to find these days.
As I said in another post, trump and his followers have nothing to do with being a conservative. When a thread likes this uses his own words to prove that, the maga crowd resorts to memes and stupid comments. Can't defend trump so this is all they have.
Whether or not Trump literally hates the military, at the very least, I think Trump is such a narcissist that he gets jealous and resentful when people praise the courage and toughness of those who have served and sacrificed. Kinda like the vibe of a dude who says, "Yeah, I thought about being a U.S. Marine but had other things going on at the time."
Trump defender bot scurried into this thread to play defense, and can’t even answer a simple question. SAD!
Yeah, I think he likes to stand in front of tanks, planes, troops and generals and such. I think he does like the military as some kind of prop that enhances his stature. I think a lot of presidents do to a degree. At least since Bush, they love wearing military props for sure. Would be nice to have a president that didnt have a "commander in chief" fetish.
