All I remember is JJ gunning down her hellspawn at home plate. Shortly followed by our boys dogpiling in Omaha, of course.
He would have surely made momma accept the hr ball, lol. She is also a gator star, but slightly less known. Haha
He did get a mention...I think it was game 1 vs Baylor. He was so front and center they probably had to say something. But I never heard it talked about again in games 2 and 3
If my memory is right- not a cautious assumption- they showed her up until the 9th inning, but not after the final out. THAT would have been OK.
To me, that was the play of the game. Cottontop looking up at the ump saying "YES!" and the ump, pausing a moment (he had a flair for the dramatic, IIRC), then emphatically yelling "NO!" and punching him out. That entire sequence epitomizes the sport of baseball: The situational awareness on the part of JJ and Rivera, evan Jackson hitting the deck to allow a clean throw, was crucial.
I watched the ESPN ump cam of the game and I thought he said "No. Boom" but I can't find that anymore. Robertson clearly says "YES?"
If we pitch like we did in Regionals... we can win this. Treat it as a three game weekend series in ACC land. Clemson is good and at home but beatable. We can do win this baby. Go Gator!
I know it’s off topic, but since we are playing Clemson, I thought this quick video (play till the end) was appropriate:
D1Baseball did previews for each of the Supers. The Gators/Clem version was pretty standard stuff- Cag hits homers/Clem's CF is very good, plus a good frosh pitcher. They also had team assessments from coaches who faced the teams earlier. Both coaches who discussed the Gators focused on Cags and other hitters, but one had comments about Sully handling this year's team: "...I think what we’re seeing is who (the media) thought Florida was at the beginning of the year. I think that’s a testament to Sully. Intense, fiery, but knows it, been there, done that. Sometimes as coaches, especially when you’re in some of these programs that are used to a high level of success, if it’s not going well, you just start (cussing out) people and looking to blow the thing up. He didn’t do that. It was ‘alright, let’s keep grinding. Now we may have seen something different if they didn’t make a regional, but the fact that they did and they were trending in the right direction, I think Sully grabbed hold of that. They’re two wins away from Omaha, so if they get back there, they will be the talked-about story because they were one of those teams that everybody’s like ‘do they get in? Do they not get in?’ It’s not one of his more talented teams from top to bottom, I don’t think, but they’re a good club.” We've seen some posts this season- somewhat more than usual, but there were plenty last year, too- that referred to "coaching" generically, with some that named assistants, some that added things like "responsibility rests with the HC." The latter certainly is true, so Sully- and assistants- get credit for getting within reach of CWS following a very mediocre regular season. I continue to deny the existance of a "Sully-can-do-no-wrong-crowd," but I do believe there is a Sully-does-a-lot-right-crowd and I'm a member. I tempered my blind optimism approach in the Regional and was ready for the Gators to lose Game 6 or Game 7, but I feel a little better about this weekend. Another CWS would be nice.
I'm in favor of this post being deleted for being off topic, but hope it lasts a day or two: Gator men's track and field won their third national championship in a row tonight! Pulled ahead of Aub in the final event. Mouse's boys now have finished first or second 13 times in a row. Women's championship is tomorrow.
Interesting notes Historically speaking . This team looks much different than it did a month ago much less a team from back in the day. Something clicked in the regionals. If they pitch like they did last weekend I like Florida’s chances. There were a few pitchers that looked as sharp as they have all year and if that is brought into this series, it really gives UF an opportunity to win. Go Gators!
