Not a rhetorical question but why does maga seemingly ignore that many wealthy individuals cheat on their taxes? “There’s also much lower-hanging enforcement fruit: At least 25,000 millionaires haven’t filed tax returns at all since 2017. Americans overwhelmingly say the wealthy and corporations dont’t pay their fair share…It would also defund the tax police, making it easier for rich people to shortchange Uncle Sam. It would allow Americans to file their federal tax returns online For free. ….. if states wish to opt in. This expansion would be a popular move: 73 percent of Americans, including 61 percent of Republicans, support…….That’s unsurprising, since the average American spends $270 and 13 hours filing their taxes. What’s the GOP response? Thirteen Republican-led states have signaled that they’ll refuse the program…….GOP lawmakers inserted language prohibiting the IRS from ever using federal money to “develop or provide taxpayers a free, public electronic return-filing service option.” https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2024/06/07/republicans-taxes-irs-funding-direct-file/ House GOP proposes IRS funding cuts, defunding free tax filing system
Republican politicians answer to wealthy supporters, who don't care about the free tax filing option, and rich corporations, including the tax filing companies that oppose it. It is unsurprising they're trying to kill it. They don't give one shit about the average American.
For all their talk of fiscal responsibility, they won't invest in one of the few parts of government that actually brings in more money than it spends.
Cutting enforcement for law breakers and a service that benefits non-wealthy filers. "Savage cuts" is the right term, no doubt.
Reduce enforcement, reduce revenue, then cut all the stuff they deem unnecessary ( pretty much everything except feeding the MIC).
Out of curiosity I wonder how many of them have received campaign contributions from Intuit or H&R Bock?
Why can't accountability in paying taxes be a bipartisan issue? I can't understand why all fiscal conservatives aren't in favor of this.
Hey, we found the law enforcement that you don't like. The one that enforces laws on you having to pay for the enforcement of all the laws you want enforced (on others)!
Psss. (Whispers) Bluke agrees with every wingnut Trumpy here, and apparently every Trump policy there is*. * Including claiming to GAF about this country but institutionalizing making the country unable to collect revenue. Particularly from those of substantial means.
Anyone here up in arms about the Democratic politicians in the pockets of Planned Parenthood's lobby? Almost like lobbyists are ripping us apart from both directions.
No, not really. Making reproductive health services more available to women is far less harmful than enabling rich people to not pay their taxes. Also; birth control and reproductive education are also tremendously cost-reducing in the grand scheme of our health care. Also; Planned Parenthood isn't even in the top 20 largest lobbyists in the US. Not really sure just how many politicians they could have "in their pockets." Though it is possible extremely likely that a large number of politicians simply agree with them on the merits of the issues.
How powerful do you really think the Planned parenthood lobby is? Democrats are pro choice. That has nothing to do with planned parenthood influence.
