NCAA OK's college football on-field sponsor logos

The NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel approved the recommendation from the Football Rules Committee. The rule allows for corporate advertisements to be placed in three spots on the field: A single advertisement centered on the 50-yard line, along with no more than two smaller flanking advertisements elsewhere on the field. It can be done on a game-by-game basis or for the entire season.

So next to the Block " F" or Gator head logo at the 50 yard line will be some corporate logo? The swamp, brought to you by Astra Zenica or Geico.

I guess I'd be ok with Gatorade as our corporate sponsor. :emoji_thinking:

I do agree that I don't like it but I would be in favor of someone paying a small fee to SWAC to sponsor a logo saying Ron Zook Field in the middle of Doak Campbell.

It seems as if the NCAA are trying very hard to extinguish my interest in their product.

If it does happen….large jump man logo in some corners would be better than like a Wells Fargo or FedEx logo.

Well, since it's university sponsored football at this point why not let other minor sponsors add their logos?

They've removed the facade almost entirely now, just need to let the players be independent contractors rather than have to sign up for classes every semester.

Its too late to split hairs worrying about this. The Schools and NCAA have concurred that its all about money.....at this point might as well go balls to the wall selling every inch of grass, stadium walls, seats, whatever to generate that dollar. While we are at it, lets see if we can squeeze the max possible $$ out of the fans (or should I say future non-fans).

It’s definitely a bunch of shit, but it doesn’t bother me. I guess nearly as as much as it bothers some of you guys because I’ve seen it this way for the last 30 years. This is nothing new to me. The only thing that’s really different. That bothers me is the damn portal and all the jumping around, I don’t give a shit if they look like a NASCAR driver on the field

Problem is that the NCAA has agreed with the suit against them and pretty much eliminated all transfer rules permanently. Additionally, the Supreme Court has ruled that NIL opportunities "cannot be limited." I just don't think there will be any way for them to put the genie back into the bottle now. I suspect even potential multi-year contracts would be challenged in court and the player that wants out of his will get out. I also foresee a bunch of "sitting out" while the player demands his deal be renegotiated.

The way I see it is that this new "system" will contain all of the "yuck" part of pro-sports with none of the rules that help ensure fair competition. I foresee a continuing $hizzshow.

That’s about right as far as I can see it. They have to adhere to the laws that the rest of us citizens abide by and they can’t just make it up for college students. Only the pro sports around the world have pretty much worked out the systems that can be used, but that’s pretty difficult when you add in an education that a person should have a choice about. It’s one thing for a five star football player. That’s dumb as a box of rocks to go to a random school to play football but the guy that is third on the depth chart that is actually there for an education , perhaps deserves the opportunity to go to wherever he chooses for an education

So when does the NFL draft get scrapped in favor of NFL scouts showing up with $$$ contract offers and plucking players whenever they want to?

Never. Because that (competitive balance) is one of the major reasons why they're the most profitable professional league in the world (by a large margin). Another, fittingly, is the ability to foist player development off to a third party, which is why we're here in the first place.

Not totally unheard of. They have had the Allstate logo on the field goal nets forever. This is just on the field.
