I've often wondered how much apparent waste in defense spending is the result of corruption, kickbacks, or sloppy accounting as opposed to efforts to keep unrelated, secret expenditures/operations off the books. I have no idea - maybe some of all of it?

I tend to think of it as the government just walking into a car dealership and being sold on the Trucoat and upgrades and just thinking "whoah, I need that, sounds important." Also, I think this is essentially the foundation of the American economy since WWII, so its now just a long standing bureaucracy of its own. So, in that sense it probably compares to the automotive business too. We dont really need car dealerships anymore and cars would likely be cheaper without middlemen, but we are kinda stuck with them because too many people make money and have the means to lobby the government to keep it going.

    https://www.timesofisrael.com/idf-s...munitions-may-have-caused-deadly-rafah-blaze/
The Israel Defense Forces said Tuesday that a hidden store of weapons may have been the actual cause of a deadly blaze in southern Gaza’s Rafah, and that an airstrike that targeted an adjacent area had used small munitions that would not ignite such a fire on their own.

The military suspects that the munitions or some other combustible substance it was unaware of caused a secondary explosion and a fire to spread in a complex housing displaced Gazans in Rafah, killing dozens of Palestinian civilians, following an airstrike targeting two top Hamas terrorists in the area.

Middle East Crisis: Biden Endorses Israeli Proposal for a Cease-Fire in Gaza

Declaring that Hamas was no longer capable of carrying out a major terrorist attack on Israel, President Biden said on Friday it was time for a permanent cease-fire in Gaza and endorsed a new plan he said Israel had offered to win the release of hostages and end the fighting.

“It’s time for this war to end, for the day after to begin,” Mr. Biden said, speaking from the State Dining Room at the White House. He also gave a stark description of Hamas’s diminished capabilities after seven months of Israeli attacks: “At this point, Hamas is no longer capable of carrying out another Oct. 7.”

Mr. Biden described the plan as a “comprehensive new proposal” that amounted to a road map to an “enduring cease-fire.” But the Israeli government has not talked about the plan in public, and it was not immediately clear how it differed from past proposals — or whether Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has declared that Israel’s objective is the complete destruction of Hamas, would describe it in similar terms.

In describing the Israeli proposal, Mr. Biden said it would be broken into three phases, starting with a six-week cease-fire, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from populated areas of Gaza and an exchange of elderly and women hostages held by Hamas for the release of hundreds of Palestinian detainees. But Mr. Biden also said there were still details that still needed to be negotiated to move on to the next phase.

Israel takes out another Iranian general in Syria. At least this time it wasn't at a diplomatic consulate. These guys might want to consider teams meetings going forward..lol

Iranian general killed in suspected Israeli air strike in Syria (msn.com)

An Iranian general has been killed in a suspected Israeli air strike near the Syrian city of Aleppo, nearly two months after the Islamic republic warned it would retaliate against attacks on its interests.

Saeed Abyar, described as a military adviser, was targeted in a bombing raid on Monday morning, resulting in the death of several civilians and “material losses”, according to Syria’s official Sana news agency.

The alleged assassination comes just weeks after a suspected Israeli air strike on Iran’s consulate in Syria that killed several high-ranking Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps officials, including two commanders.

In response to the attack, Tehran launched an unprecedented direct attack on Israel as the decades-old shadow war between the two countries exploded briefly into open conflict.

Hamas will stop concealing their fighters and their weapons in schools and hospitals once they no longer benefit from Doing so. The facilities themselves are extremely ‘soft’ targets but they forgo the fortification for the benefit of the propaganda of “X number of Palestinians killed with bombing of church/school/hospital “. Unfortunately there are so many naive ones that unwittingly encourage this strategy, so it will likely continue.

That anyone thinks at this point in the war Hamas fighters are just hiding out in buildings and driving around vehicles is amusing and strikes me as naive.

I’m going to guess the closest you’ve been to tactical planning is plants vs zombies. You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. I realize I’m in the minority is this place so make whatever comment you wish. The fact that you think Hamas is NOT setting up shop in the closest civilian gathering location tells me Hamas strategy works very well on people such as yourself, which if GC is any indicator there are a lot like you. Carry on

What the heck is this guy even saying? Keep smoking kids until Hamas doesn't put fighters near some kids?

Any second now we can expect to again see the editorial posted telling us how killing all these 10s of thousands of kids, women, and other civilians is really a super awesome, great tactical implementation.*

*Just don't ask for a long term strategy.

I'm no military strategist, but Israel has bombed pretty much every civilian building there is to bomb in Gaza, and I wouldnt be like "well maybe I will camp out in this one that has yet to be bombed and not get bombed, because they definitely wont bomb it." Israel has shown they are ready to kill aid workers, their own hostages, tens of thousands of civilians, etc. But you think Hamas is out there like "we will totally get away with setting up shop in this school." If I were an insurgent, I would probably hide out in a place that I wont have fall on top of me if it takes a bomb, but that's just me, the idiot who knows nothing about military strategy. For instance, all those places Israel has supposedly cleared, but then has to go back to because Hamas isnt stupid lol.
