This was already in place for private schools, I wonder if it will level the playing field a little for those competing against schools like Trinity Catholic in Ocala or Trinity Christian in Jacksonville. https://cbs12.com/news/local/fhsaa-approves-nil-deals-for-high-school-athletes WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — The Florida High School Athletic Association unanimously approved for student-athletes to get paid based on their name image and likeness, commonly known as the NIL policy. This can include business endorsements, promotional activities, and social media presence. “I do believe that this will put us on par with the rest of the country,” said an FHSAA board member. Florida joins 31 other states that have approved NIL deals for high school students.
Dang, too bad these nil deals weren't around when I was in LL, probably could have gotten some free ice cream every week..
I would have been fine with the coach leaving some bubble gum in the dugout. Wait that was free anyway.... DANG
One of the top basketball players in Alabama (Caleb Holt, already has offers from Kentucky, Duke, and UNC) just left for a school in Georgia that is going to pay him to play basketball. Led his team to 6A state championships as a freshman and sophomore (and won tournament MVP both years), now finishing out his last two years in Georgia. Alabama hasn't approved NIL for high school athletes yet, but Georgia has. Will be interesting to see if other Alabama athletes make the jump, or if the Alabama legislature rushes an NIL bill through quickly.
Ridiculous...most HS students can't even legally sign a contract until they are Seniors. Oh, but recruiting a student at another school is still against the rules
I would have been happy with more than a 5 minute water break in a 3 hour practice. Think that I am exaggerating?
